Try this

Quilted coats look fab and i am the top arbiter of what oooks good on ph

Comes very lightly waxed, you can buy fjal raven wax block for a few quid that is very easy to apply if you want it more water resistant.
In black? That'd do fine, as it's pretty much a functional requirement.

That site has a dark brown version. They may do black somewhere else i would have got black if i had the choice. Its just that they are on sale there at quite a discount.

Ps i am very unfashionable but i love that jacket.

Dont expect it to be very water resistant unless you add extra layers of wax its adequate but not exceptional in that regard

hehe

Actually, it's a smartish coat you can wear over other stuff eg suit so what's the problem? I saw someone wearing that style over a suit and thought, "He looks smart." :shrug:

I wear an Omega SMP and double cuff shirts with cuff links, does this help my cause?

Or does further cement my place as lower-middle class car salesman?

French cuffs and an anorak over a suit is not the sort of fashion statement that Id wish to make...

I guess what I was asking was "I like this style of jacket and I want to buy one. However, I believe Barbour to be a quality make at this price level, should I be considering anything else?"

A bit about me;

- 27 years old;
- Choice of cars are 62 plate Insignia as workhorse and E46 330Ci in the garage;
- Just bought a 4 bed semi for around £200k for me, the OH and our dog;
- Don't have an awful amount of disposable but need a jacket to keep me warm;
- Don't shoot amymore.

= Middle class boy needs middle class coat.
Wow, are you me? Apart from the dog?

I have several harbours including a trenchcoat. The last time I wore it someone said I looked like a member of the SS. Not the SS, but the guy with the little tank in allo allo. It ruined the whole Barbour thing for me frown

Class has nothing to do with your income.

It is related to your values, rather than the value of your house.

Indeed smile

Nothing wrong with a Barbour jacket apart from the fact they are literally everywhere at the moment. Personally, I don't find the quilted type to be that great quality though.

I needed a new coat for the winter...went for the Barbour corbridge...waxed coat, lined, hood in collar...have to say that for the price, its pretty good, on very cold days its plenty warm enough with a pullover underneath.

Buy it, wear it and once it goes out of "fashion", it appears you'd be back in fashion with the unfashionable masses on PH. biggrin What on earth do people do here? Burn their entire wardrobe because a few people you look down on buy something similar? Whatever you move on to, the masses will eventually follow, forcing you to flee to ever-more obscure, overpriced and difficult to pronounce brands. Shameful attitude I say.*

You've got basically five options:

1. Never change your style. (Prepare yourself for mockery)
2. Go classic/timeless and stick with it. (safest option)
3. Follow real fashion. (Pricey, risk of looking like a tit)
4. Be a true fashion-leader, stay ahead of the trends (Risky game, chances of looking like a tit are high)
5. Follow mainstream fashion (suffer the agony of the masses following with you)

  • bloody right too, much like moving on to your road, if the great unwashed start pilfering your wardrobe it's time to up and move on"
