Should anyone feel their Barbour is a little on the manky side and could do with a clean, this one is outside the barn I rent for car storage, think it’s beyond even a factory recon ?

For hats I'd go for a Tilley. Those tarp hats look good, but as you say, a bit crocodile dundee for me.

Walking trouser, or action slacks as my other half calls them. I tend to go Rohan, just because they're a good fit for me.

This thread seems like a good place to start asking, perhaps someone can help...

I'm looking for a hat to wear, when walking the dog in the rain. I want to stop the rainwater running down my neck.

It's often a bit drafty when it's raining, so I want it to stay on in the wind, but try to keep the rain out of my neck.

Something between the brim on a sun hat, and the brim on a sombrero.

Oh, and it would be nice to not look like Crocodile Dundee too. I live in Devon, not the Walkabout Creek!

I have a couple of brimmed hats but my go to winter dog walking hat is the deer Hunter muflon which is fleece lined and has a fold down fleece that covers your ears and neck.
It is amazing...
It keeps the rain off my glasses and won't blow off in any weather it does need proofing spray every now and then but i wouldn't be without it this time of year - previously I have tried Tilley, driza bone, etc etc etc for years and years....
and the answer after many many hats....is....
Summer - Berghaus cascade
Winter - deerhunter muflon

Thank you, and to all others who have replied.

I just need to measure my head now.

Email from Barbour today,
Pre loved classics form the factory, a sort of approved used coat programme,
https://www.barbour.com/uk/barbour-re-loved/classi...

Prices seem ok as well, might grab a Sapper jacket

I appreciate you posting that. Been thinking of buying one for a while. Just ordered a Sapper jacket myself in Olive.

Yes its a thread bump.

I may be of that certain age now, but I quite fancy one. What are the thoughts? Still a bit 2013 chavvy? Not as good quality??

Quality probably not quite as good as ones from decades ago (like most things that start to have a fashion element), but probably still good enough for most people’s use.

I think they’ve managed to separate their Classic/traditional lines quite well from some of their newer, more modern (chavvier?) lines. For example:

Vs

https://www.barbour.com/uk/b-intl-legacy-bobber-qu...

No offence intended to anyone wearing the latter.

I still see lots of country folk wearing classic Barbour clothing (I’ve got 4 wax jackets so hope I’m not looking like a chav!)

Some of the jackets are no longer made in the UK either if that's of concern to you too.

In a few weeks time my Barbour will be 38 years old.

I re-wax it every few years and it's had a few rips repaired over the years (the last one this spring after it got caught on something whilst out rabbiting in February). It is still going strong and remains 100% practical as a waterproof working coat

I've got a similar age Barbour Border. Can't imagine not having it!

Mines about 20, I have waxed it a few times. It does have a distinctive musty smell. Which reminds me, best hang it out over the summer!

Bought my Gamefair in 1987, many repairs, few alterations (inside pocket, knitted cuffs ) battered but regular clean & reproof and it’s still the default bad weather coat
Only thing that changed is it seems to have shrunk over the years ??

Slightly better weather calls for the 2000 Cowan Commando (not the awful DPM one obviously)
