I did something childish today.

I don't quite understand this. Is this tag a speaker or similar? How does it play the video?
And how do you activate it? Just by going near it?

Robin, think of it as a sticker programmed to deliver information to a smart phone, such as an instruction to visit a web page or url or send text to the phone/device, if it comes within a few inches of the tag. The upside I think, is that the tags don't require battery power. You can buy tags online programmed with your choice of data for 40p.
I'm still looking into getting some. Placing them under bus stop seats where bags are put down and back pockets sit... Possibilities are endless
Hth...?

I was in Sainsbury's earlier and a women shouted to her kids to go stand with their dad in the corner not far away. I walked past the dad and said "you been sent to the naughty corner" thinking he would laugh. He just bowed his head with the shame, the look on his face was priceless. Poor bloke but I laughed to myself all the way around sainsburys

I simply must acquire some of these. What you did sid was brilliant!
I had a look online, and rapidnfc will make up tags and ship them to you. There is a text field for entering text for the tags on their site. My question to you is, do you just enter the desired url, or does more complex code need to be written? Id rather know before ordering obviously.
More questions... The user will be prompted to open the link, it doesn't happen automatically, does it? If you could drop me a PM, that would be great!

I have an NFC app on my phone that lets me write my own tags. I just click "add URL" and put in whatever I fancy, and I just have to tap one of my tags and it's written. The app I use is called TagWriter (for Android), I've also got NFC Tools that does pretty much the same thing (NFC Tools is more for phone functions, like activating silent or turning on bluetooth). All you need are a couple of NFC tags (if you buy 10 they're 36p each!), the app (TagWriter is free) and an NFC reader (any Android phone really).
The user isn't prompted for a confirmation, it just requires their phone to be unlocked or the NFC reader active (I assume the guys who triggered the video had their phones unlocked in their hand or something).
Just took a very quick video showing how it works on my phone. I unlock it, then slide it over an NFC tag hidden under my mouse mat. The video then plays:

(excuse the state of my desk - in the middle of some filing)
Just in case - don't do anything illegal with this information, it's just for fun
Edit: bks, I forgot I left the tag under my mat and triggered it myself. I'm an idiot.

A friend of mine is a nightmare for riding the brake at traffic lights and in cues of traffic instead of using the handbrake, I know lots of people do it but it makes me twitch.
Anyway I started a great game of whenever he stops yank the handbrake, as he goes to remove the handbrake I knock it out of gear
And so the cycle continues until the he has to move off with one hand on the gear knob, one on the handbrake and steering with his knees.
Never gets old.

As you were!
A bit frustrated at various attempts to get my teenager to do..well anything really, the same day as being asked... little swine inseperable from his PC and wallows around in a onesie... with feet....
Dumped an entire tray full of ice cubes down his neck....moved pretty fast then - with unintended bonus that trying to walk on ice cubes is decidedly uncomfortable - didn't achieve anying but brightened my day....

A while ago we pulled the usual pranks on the work experience lad - asking him to fetch a left-handed screwdriver etc. - and ended-up sending him to the hairdresser's next door for a "long wait". Pretty standard stuff...
...only the hairdresser actually spent 10+ minutes looking through her cupboards! What she expected to find I don't know but it's nice to see that the usual stereotypes are alive and well!
