As for going in and grabbing breakfast, maybe he just did not want to be bothered whilst eating?
He wouldn't have been bothered at breakfast or at any other time... I don't think anyone knew who he was as the hotel is mostly full of French/German/Dutch etc and it even took us a few days to realise who he was, which resulted in a funny exchange with my mother in the corridor outside the room when she first met him:

"Hi there! How you doing? I'm John!"

"Erm, Hello, I'm Margery" *blank look on face*

He must have thought she didn't own a TV or something.

Jaap Stam caught me as I fell out of his loft*. He later pushed an acquaintance's car off his garden after he got stuck doing dough nuts on his lawn*.

Oh how we laughed. Missed him once he got kicked off the team.

  • I was installing speakers in his house and was running the wires through the loft.My ladder slipped as I came out of the loft and he caught me.My acquaintance was another engineer who had parked his car on the lawn by mistake because it was covered in snow. In trying to get off he spun the car. Jaap came out and help him off the lawn. Jaap was a great guy and used to call our shop even after he moved to Italy to just have a chat.
I did work for many of the other foreign football players of that generation and they were all very nice. I also worked with Gary Barlow at the height of his fame. There were teenage girls at the gates thinking we were smuggling Garry in in our Bedford van. They did not realize that there was another entrance with the gate open just down the road.

My wife and I met Ari Vatanen in an airport hotel whilst we were waiting to go somewhere long haul. He was having a coffee. Anyway before I knew it they were out of the coffee shop door. I followed at a distance as he whisked her into his bedroom and quickly gave her one.

Well, an autograph. Just one.

I was checking into a flight at Heathrow a couple of years ago, and Tiff was checking in with his wife and kids at the desk beside me.

I saw him coming out of the cinema while I was going in, on the way to watch Senna.

He thought it was "excellent", which is nice.

One of the girls in my office's brother met Leigh Francis a few weeks ago on a fight to America.

How is this a link to me? Well not only does she work with me, but, her brother laid my flooring in my last (not current) house, ha, tenuous or what!

In a bar in LA I met the actor who played "Supertanker captain" in the film Speed 2. He advised me not to bother with the film because it is "total crap"

This chap:

I also met this actress the same evening:

I ended up in Anthony Andrews house that night, although he was in London at the time

I have recently been in a house which once belonged to a footballer whose name I've forgotten but he used to play for Aston Villa.

I will ask my friend the name of the footballer.

I was in a restaurant in La Caleta in Tenerife when in came Big Ron Atkinson and his leather skinned face lifted wife , Now Big Ron who isn't big anymore used to manage Aston Villa and might have been in the same house as you because an ex Villa player lived there so my tenuous link might be all the way back to you , but if you're not famous it doesn't do this thread any good .

I bought a TV from a guy in Rugby who lived in the house where Frank Whittle designed the jet engine in the 1930s

I once wrote an article for my university newspaper, so I'm pretty sure I'm up there.

I've been in a car (and home) belonging to Chunkymonkey71, so that's something too.

Scratch that, two cars belonging to the weegie pie.
