the actor Geoff Hughes (Eddie Yates out of Corrie) was a customer of mine in The Gunshop I run - he used to come in and stand behind the counter for a chat. One day when I got a bit busy he started to serve an old boy who wanted a tin of airgun pellets. After the chap had paid for them he turned round and said ' did you know you look like a bloke off the telly - not seen you in here before are you new ?'
Explains why I sat next to him on the IOW ferry a few years back.
Sold him a suit ( Mr Harry grey pinstripe) in 1978, he wore it at some television awards event. He'd only come in to buy some replacement trousers that he'd split during a garden fete he'd opened.

My family used to own a main dealership in town.

In the 70's a competition was run by the manufacturer at the dealership and Noel Edmonds was there to hand out prizes, and the lucky winner got a ride in his helicopter. Cue, the car journey with me (about 6) my dad, Noel Edmonds and one other to the local airport.

Same dealership, Little and Large filmed a sketch inside/outside the workshop.

Late 80's we were involved in an independent record store. Jools Holland was playing locally and was staying at the posh hotel around the corner from the store.
He came in and asked if we had an Elton John CD in stock, which we didn't. Got the CD the next day from the distributor and it was duly delivered to the receptionist at the hotel who promised to pass it on to him when he came back from his show that night.

Don't know if he ever got it as we never got a thanks or anything. irked

A tenuous link - I never met them - I was not posh enough to be in their club!

I'm old enough to remember...

I'm also old enough to remember the lyrics of a verse of the Strawbs' song "Back in the Old Routine".

"Perhaps I'll win the pools and be a millionaire
I'll get myself a sports car and a sexy au pair
I'll buy myself a yacht and sail away for a year
With Susan George for company and plenty of beer."

Last night I saw, said hello to and had a brief chat with gay rights activist Peter Tatchell on Great Portland St in London.

That fact that we had just emerged from the pub known as The Cock provoked much mirth with me and MrsPurpleTurtle.

Nice fella, and whilst I am clearly a straight-as-they-come powerfully built PH company director type, I've always admired how he has dedicated his life to giving oppressors one in the eye, so to speak.

Friend of a friend was very drunk in the lobby of a London hotel.

Lionel Blair walked past.

Friend of a friend shouted "Its Lionel Blair!"

Lionel Blair walked away from him and got into the lift, then did a little tap dance, a 360 spin, then did jazz hands at him as the lift doors closed.

Kudos Lionel. Top man. Nice to see a sense of humour in a star who's "off-duty".

After my frankly abysmal previous effort, I feel I now have a slightly more worthy meeting...

Have you heard of The Struts?

No?

Thought not.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Struts

Adam Slack. One of the guitarists.

In a nightclub in his hometown of Derby.

Tbf my ex knows his dad as she works in the pub in the village Adam grew up in /the pub his dad drinks in.

I'd also seen The Struts before they were famous, at a Christmas lights switch on in Derby city centre.

Anyway, I went up and said hello. Introduced myself (not in the kind of way I'd introduce myself to someone like Jason Plato), and just said I'd been following the bands progress, I said I guess you're not in America at the moment (obviously), and told him about seeing the band previously.

I was shocked when he asked me my name, and we talked a little about his dad and the pub etc, he knew of the owners who've recently left but didn't know of my ex, left it at that and wished him well and said goodbye.

Made me feel quite happy, it's a band I do follow, not massively but I do have an interest in.

One school I went to was the school Jeremy Corbyn went to. Not at the same time as him.

Bryan Ferry's son was in the year above me at another school.

My younger brother was at school with Steve Winwood's son.

My younger sister went to school with someone who allegedly went/goes out with Jeremy Clarkson's daughter.

I used to see K.K. Downing at a local pub pretty regularly.

My most tenuous one:
About five or six years ago I was at a pub in Wolverhampton with a group of mates and one of them thought he recognised Kevin Rowland (from Dexy's Midnight Runners) in the bogs, but he wasn't sure
