Last night I saw, said hello to and had a brief chat with gay rights activist Peter Tatchell on Great Portland St in London.

That fact that we had just emerged from the pub known as The Cock provoked much mirth with me and MrsPurpleTurtle.

Nice fella, and whilst I am clearly a straight-as-they-come powerfully built PH company director type, I've always admired how he has dedicated his life to giving oppressors one in the eye, so to speak.
come on, it was on the common wasn't it?
I did have to explain to MrsPT who he was. She, in her own words, "is not really a fan of reading the big papers".

The Heath, actually ... laugh

I read these and they remind me of things and then I can't remember whether I posted them way back in the thread!

Anyway, I just remembered that I went to school with Nitin Sawhney (sp?) and we used to take the p out of him for various things, not least his handwriting. Guess that doesn't bother him too much today!

My dad was at the school at the same time as Corbyn.

Held a door open for Petula Clark once. She said thankyou, then Mick Jagger appeared and I held the door for him as well. Double whammy. This star studded event took place at Heathrow airport.

I once saw Fatima Whitbread (lantern-jawed spearist) driving a 205 GTi.

Likewise Mike Gatting, driving a Jag.

We shared a roundabout.

I spoke a friend today & they met Sally Lindsay (ex Coronation Street / Mount Pleasant / Open All Hours actress) earlier this week where they worked (my friend, not Sally Lindsay). She was filming a new drama (Sally Lindsay, not my friend) at her workplace. Not only that, but one of the producers asked my friend if she would like to be an extra in a crowd scene (football not bukkake) but she declined.

My friend reports she (Sally Lindsay) was "very nice".

Bryan Ferry's son was in the year above me at another school.

My younger brother was at school with Steve Winwood's son.

My younger sister went to school with someone who allegedly went/goes out with Jeremy Clarkson's daughter.

I used to see K.K. Downing at a local pub pretty regularly.

My most tenuous one:
About five or six years ago I was at a pub in Wolverhampton with a group of mates and one of them thought he recognised Kevin Rowland (from Dexy's Midnight Runners) in the bogs, but he wasn't sure

Bryan Ferry was brought up about a mile from where I live , and went to a school that I didn't go to , but I've cycled past many times.

I also get pheasants in my garden that are raised in the grounds of Lord Lambton but manage to have escaped the gun , that's Lord Lambton of Profumo infamy , well his son as that Lord Lambton is now pushing up the daisies.

The current Lord Lambton is the brother of Lucinda Lambton who used to get on the telly.

Went to school (Sidcot, private in Somerset) with Nicko McBrain's son, also Nick, a year older but we were in the same tutor group for a while. Iron Maiden donated some drum gear a few times and Nicko opened the recording studio we had too. Wondering what he might do now, talented performer like his dad if I remember right.

Jonathan Dimbleby's daughter, and Chris de Burgh's brothers daughter were also there at the same time, or it was the other way around and the third Dimbleby brother's kid. Lloyd Grossman also a former pupil, saw him once at some event.

Took a piss next to Nick Mason at Goodwood last Sunday (we were in the paddock bogs at the time). Half an hour later he pranged his McLaren GTR. I'm still concerned that it may somehow have been my fault: Shook it a bit too vigorously, possible later Mason race boot sole/piss/GTR pedal pandemonium... I still can't sleep.

A work colleague was out and about at the weekend (Legoland I think, this is a conversation overheard)
Was wearing an Ainsley Harriot Comic Relief T-Shirt, which attracted the attention of a bunch of kids.
They chatted for a few minutes, then went back to their mother.
Mother was Penelope Cruz....

Bit darker - but I was friends at school with the brother of Gerwald Claus-Brunner.

Unknown over here but notorious/infamous in Germany for being a member of the Pirate political party and for his habit of wearing colourful dungarees -

And also for murdering someone and then killing himself..
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3798424/Pi...

They were a messed up bunch back then - their parents were (iirc) right wingers on the periphary of holocaust denial groups.

Here's a pretty tenuous one:

I was walking through Nice a couple of days ago and was approached by a homeless guy with a dog. I was just about to tell him I didn't have any money when he started speaking to me with a strong Scottish accent. He wasn't drunk / high and seemed like a pretty intelligent guy so I asked what his story was as I couldn't imagine how a Scottish guy could end up homeless in a place like Nice. He told me he was a recovering heroin addict, he'd lived all over the world, and was Gordon Ramsay's brother. At the time I naturally assumed this was BS but having googled it, turns out it actually was him! He seemed relatively happy, his dog looked immaculate and he apparently has found a girlfriend he stays with occasionally. He wasn't begging as such, just sitting on the street with his dog and a bag with all his stuff. He also told me he was looking for work so I gave him a few pointers which he seemed more grateful for than the money I gave him.

My cousin took delight in texting me from her local pub, just to tell me she was sat chatting with George Clooney his wife Amal and Hughey Morgan (lead singer of Fun Lovin Criminals) as they were all making a fuss of her new French Bulldog puppy.

Watching More 4 or something the other night on my tablet, i came across a cops with cameras type show where Vinny Jones rode in the cars with the cops.

In one scene they were following a car that went past the lane at the end of my street.

Wow! Just wow.
