If only there was a vast resource of searchable information accessed by some form of interactive electronic viewer. Something like that would be so useful in circumstances like this. wink
Sod off, it annoyed me at the time blahwink

Today's annoyance is the inability of seemingly everyone to know the difference between "advance" (as in "booked in advance") and "advanced".

Euro Car Parts rotten web site. Trying to order some stuff last night, can't remember my password, so I click on the 'forgotten password' link and enter my email address. Site confirms it's sent me password reset instructions, but they don't arrive in the half hour I waited, either for that first request or for the three others I made. So, no problem, I'll buy the stuff using 'Buy without creating an account' which I hadn't noticed up to then. But you have to provide an email address, and if you've already got an account for that address it rejects it because you should be logging in. So I have to put in an alternate email address, which means I'll get all the junk email twice now, instead of once.

Saldy GSF didn't list the parts, and VW Spares were out of stock and more expensive.

In fog the whole point of foglights is to avoid being blinded by the glare from your own headlights reflected back from the fog, so yes, in foggy conditions, sidelights and fogs is the best way of seeing where you are going
Eh? Why isn't the light from the fog lights reflected back at you then? Isn't it just light, same as from the dipped beam? Why does one reflect and not the other? I thought fog lights were just extra bright lights to help others see you coming sooner, because dipped beams are directed away from other traffic for normal conditions and are therefore less visible in fog to other road users.
Have a look at the beam pattern of foglights - it is a wide fan shape with a sharp cutoff at the top to minimise the amount of light scattered back towards the driver's eyes

I also always thought fog lights were for the benefit of other road users so they see you coming

begs the question, why arent front-fogs mandatory on all cars?

Front fogs are to help you see and are discretionary.

Rear fogs are to help you be seen and are mandatory. That's why grey import cars without a rear foglight have to have one retro-fitted.

IIRC rear fog lights were made compulsory after a series of multiple rear-ending accidents on motorways, with cars speeding unseen in fog.

Front fog lights are still seen as a luxury, and not fitted on base spec models. When I was younger, they had yellow lenses, and were positioned to light up the kerb/verge. The idea is that fog does not go down as far as the ground, so you can see the kerb if it is lit up. They are not doing much use if they point forwards, as in modern cars. An affectation used by boy-racers to make them look "sporty". I can't remember when I last had the need to turn them on.

Those people you follow that approach the end of a queue of traffic brake hard to a complete dead stop and then:

a) Creep the remaining 10-15 meters to the queuing car ahead of them.
b) Engage first gear and drive the remaining 10-15 meters to the queuing car ahead of them.
Approaching a queue of traffic, sat on the motorway or whatever, without traffic behind me I'll pull up short of the queue, leaving me a bit of extra space if the next car to appear behind fails to brake. Once they've clearly spotted the queue and slowed I'll pull forward to my usual position behind the queue, leaving me enough room (tyres and tarmac or rubber and road visible) to manoeuvre around the car in front should they brake down.

Starbucks.

"Would you like Guatemalan beans with that. It's 20p extra?"
"No thanks"
"It's the best"
"Then why not offer it as standard?"
"Er..."

I know why they do it.
I read somewhere that they make something like 36p profit on a standard cappuccino and the bigger profits come from the fatties on diets ording extras and largeing it up.

They can fook off.

The use of unnecessary words in emails - Today's word "bifurcate" when using the word split or separate would have done.

I had to look up bifurcate as the context seemed to suggest "split", I had to be sure...
