Seeing someone mis-spell "Doughnut" on another thread reminded me of how mildly irritated* I am every time I walk past the local KFC and see the signs for "Drive Thru". I know they're an American firm, I know they're doing it for corporate identity and to bring a slice of the good ol' USA to dingy old Britain, but something should be done. There's a valid reason for all those extra letters we use in words like "through" and "night", there must be. I know, evolution of the language. But it's still annoying.

* Yes, but there isn't a 'things that make you mildly irritated' thread.
I prefer donut, sorry. getmecoat

Drivers and cyclists wearing headphones whilst driving / cycling...FFS.

Go ahead and deprive yourself of one of your 5 senses whilst on the road...very clever that.

not saying they deserve to die but i'd be hard pushed to find sympathy for them if they had an accident - its other on the road that pay....
Got to agree with you on this one smile Surely there must be a rule on this?

Trains in winter.
I commute to work and on a good day (i.e. no delays) it takes 40 minutes. 6 carriages should turn up for both my journeys to and from work. Recently however, with the colder weather getting here (???) and the train company introducing new electric trains, the following happens:

a) 3 of the 6 carriages won't turn up. That means squeezing the same number of people onto half the train. It means many journeys I simply can't get on.
b) one of the new electric trains will break down meaning a cancellation and see a) above. The new electric trains are about the most unreliable form of transport available - I was stuck on one for 5 hours the other morning when it broke down between stations.
c) delays - they happen, I accept that, but surely they can't happen 8 out of every 10 journeys.
d) the fast train gets stuck behind a local stopping train. Now i'm no logistics expert but sense would dictate that you let the fast trains out of a station first. Oh no....that would make sense!

So fking frustrating!

Onions that look fine in the supermarket but turn out to be rotten when you take them out of the fridge a day later.

Evidence from previous post would suggest so, yes.

A fridge is not a good place to store onions. They prefer somewhere cool, dry and dark.

A Fridge is not DRY. Moisture and humidity in the fridge will cause Onions to rot much faster than being in a cupboard, keep them on a low shelve because heat rises wink

From the Net:
Dry bulb onions should be kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated place. Do not store whole onions in plastic bags. Lack of air movement will reduce their storage life. Lay a sheet of news paper in cupboard shelve to help reduce moisture. Do not store Onions next to Potatoes as the moisture from Onions can cause potatoes to seed quicker.

The prawn mayo & lettuce baguette that I had for lunch just now.

I was under the impression that the generally-accepted way of making a prawn mayo & lettuce baguette was to split open the baguette, put the prawn mayo in first, and then use the lettuce to hold the prawns in.

Not so, according to the new girl on the deli bar. She put the lettuce in first and then the prawn mayo, so the lettuce acted as a spring to eject the prawn mayo everywhere when I unwrapped it to eat it. Grrrr.

(Yeah, yeah. First World problems. )

I find that a lot with baguettes - there's often no attempt to get the filling actually in the baguette, more to balance it along the top, thus making it look like there's more in it, and allowing much of it to drop on the floor or desk or wherever.

No, it's the deli bar in the staff canteen at my place of work.

Yes, I did wonder if it was maybe something to do with that.

Food Prices,
Was out with the OH monday morning and stopped at a Cafe at Newlands Corner

1 hot chocloate
1 latte coffee,
2 slices of Welsh rarebit.(cheese on toast) = £15.00 Sorry but that's taking the Piss!

Instead of leaving the Cafe happy with my dining experience, it did the complete opposite with me and the OH saying we would not go there again!

Later that day we found we found a pub from this company http://www.greatbritishcarvery.co.uk/ 3 full carverys = £14.85
