"I want to knock, on wood" - no I don't. Not a good reason to buy your overpriced soulless tables and chairs.

The ones that really annoy me are the ones that contain "talk to me" in the subject.

It's the latest fking annoying trend. People being interviewed on the news do it too.

It's a bit like `can I get.....' when people are asking for a drink at the bar. fk off. You are not American.

Is "so" actually wrong? I understand it's an annoying affectation, but it can't be up there with the total misunderstanding of how waitressing works that people who use "can I get" clearly suffer from, the tts.

If you're desperate to nurse some poorly souls in a foreign country and Sierra Leone is your sthole of choice then that's fine. Only don't be a stupid virus spreading and bring the damn thing back with you.

I'm amazed they let the person fly back. Actually it's not that much of a shock given the amount of stupid people in decision making roles.

Could not agree more,
OK so they say this virus is a fluid Virus, so lets say you don't feel well and you sneeze? You have your passport in your hand which has been contaminated by your sneeze, you then hand this to the bloke at passport control who then scratches his nose or whatever and so the virus spreads! I don't see anyone at passport control wearing gloves. If Doctors or Helpers want to go and work in these places, there should be at least a 4 week quarantine period where these people should be held and not allowed to mingle with any locals, go to church etc.

They are playing with fire!

How would wearing gloves prevent the transfer of the virus from the passport to 'his nose or whatever'?

Threads that have the word 'official' in them, as in 'The Official XXXX Thread'

Who's made it official? Have Haymarket given it some personal endorsement or something?

Well the basic wearing of gloves might make the officer think twice about touching his or her skin?
Just a thought, I'm no expert, but its basic stuff.

It's just something that has become a tradition for threads where we would probably otherwise get duplicates, most notably the F1 race threads. It simply means "this is the one we've all decided to use and duplicates will be closed down". Often the first person to create the post creates it with the word "official" in the subject and others know to look for one so named before creating a new one. Likewise, if there are duplicates then people gravitate to the one with "official" in the title.
Nobody confers "official" status on it - it's just convention / tradition.

(I just thought you might be less unreasonably annoyed by it if you knew the reason)

Thank you. Still annoyed, as is my prerogative and in the spirit of the thread, but definitely less so now!

When I was in a real job I always thought that the people I managed were lazy work shy fops. I would say that most people are slackers.

This nurse Pauline Cafferkey with ebola, has just cost the GB taxpayer £ millions, police escort to airport, special flight to London , further police escort to hospital. If this disease affected animals eg. rabies or foot+mouth we have an immediate ban on transporting animals from infected areas/countries so why not do the same with humans. Seems to me the only way to contain the virus.
