People who pretend to be too cool to know or have heard of something or someone that is incredibly popular.

Recent thread examples...

Who is Emma Watson as I've never heard of her? (her picture accompanied the thread) - unless you've been living in a cave on the fking moon for the last 15 years, you can't tell me you have no idea who the girl is who played the lead female role in one of the biggest film franchises in history.

Who is this Ed Sheeran bloke on Top Gear as I've never heard of him? - never realised there were that many caves on the moon.

Just because you don't follow something, or have an interest in it, doesn't mean you can't be aware of it. I don't like tennis but I know who Andy Murray is, I'm not a teenage girl but I am aware of a band called One Direction.

Irritates the fk out of me.

AAAAARGGGHHHHH she pisses me off sometimes ! especially like now when she throws a tantrum and a following moody for me not answering. its like she cant go without hearing the sound of her own voice for less than ten minutes. then its your quiet what you in a mood for... no im quiet because im reading a fking book for gods sake.

Hand on heart, I had never heard of Ed Sheeran before last weekend.
I'm sure that there are many people who have not heard of Adrian Newey, say, or John Updike. It depends on where your interests lie.

I listen to, mostly, podcasts, Radio 4 and Rock (ACDC, Iron Maiden, etc) - I've no idea who he is. Well, I do now I've googled him but that's it.

Sorry to be irritating but I had to Google her name just now. But then I've never watched any Harry Potter movies or read of the books for that matter. I don't regards myself as cool or uncool for not knowing who people are though. I do find it very irritating that some posters assume everyone knows who certain celebrities are and what they have done.

I totally agree with Northwest monkey here, Mr Sheeran, one direction et al, are out there in the world, they're on the news, in the papers, on the One Show, Graeme Norton, Jonathon Ross, the internet etc etc.

To claim that you've never EVEN heard of them is ridiculous, unless you've not in the last two years had any interaction with any type of media.

It's like the well reported case of a High Court who stated 'Who is Gazza?' many years ago, despite him being on the front of every newspaper for months at the time.

I'm not a huge music fan, I haven't got earphones on all day, but I am aware of the existence of - The Dead Kennedys, The Beatles, Glenn Miller, Mozart and Andrea Boticelli. And that's all because I read the occasional paper, watch the news infrequently and listen to the radio when i'm in the car.

It's not about knowing the full ins & outs of a particular persons life though is it? We're talking about someone who has played the lead female role in a series of 8 films grossing over £5 billion. Over the past 15 years, this girl has hardly been a shrinking violet and has appeared in many TV programmes / newspaper articles / UN ambassador etc.

Before my son was born in 2007, I hadn't watched kids TV for about 25 years, but I was still aware of who the Teletubbies / Barney / Wiggles etc were.

Well there you go. I was aware of the movies (even own one of the books (unread)) but ask me to name any of the cast and I'd be stumped. As for Barney and Wiggles, you've got me there.
However one of the few TV programs that I make a point of watching is Game of Thrones, yet I would also struggle to name any of the cast. I guess some of us just aren't interested in the doings of actors, celebrities and so on.

I have a 7 year old daughter so I am familiar with one direction (I was at a tribute concert at the weekend), Nikki Minaj amongst others - so although I don't like them, I have to listen to them.

Ed Sheeran has, however, passed me by as I haven't watched anything he's been on. Not intentional, just one of those things.

I'm not a fan of the Beatles either as it happens.

Windows applications that "offer" to install loads of additional junk during their installer, usually search bars, changing your home page, additional software, and the like, and all are checked by default (ie. you have to explicitly opt-out). You have to watch them like a hawk, if you decide to install. Usually I bin a program that tries to do that unless it's something I really need.

I had heard of them, of course, but had no idea they'd died.

I've watched the first three series of Game of Thrones since Christmas. The only member of a cast I can remember the name of is Sean Bean, and that's mostly because it hugely annoys me that the two names sound different.

There is also someone called "Kit" but I don't know who that is. I could google if I cared, but I don't. I did google the series, so I know that Jon Snow (don't know the chap's real name) is related to the ginger who plays his love interest (don't know her real or character name either). Don't know who wrote the books. My eyes have seen the information, but I can't recall it.

I don't not know stuff to be cool, I'm genuinely ignorant.

Guitar-rock background music that accompanies any US military footage on YouTube.
Not just that, but anything to do with cars too.

I'm watching "How It's Made: Dream Cars" on the Bugatti Veyron and the heavy guitar rock music is really off-putting.

Also, the way everything is narrated in the third person is really annoying. "Next, a so-and-so is installed"... "A template is used"... etc
