"You've been eating chips the wrong way your entire life"

I try to avoid scrolling the pages on PH down far enough to see the appalling nonsense that appears there, but sometimes I spin the wheel too far. That's one of the most annoying, but not as annoying as the endless PH TV ads with those two persons sitting behind a table.

Read-only posts on Facebook*

Whether it be a post that can be seen by Friends of Friends but only "liked" or commented upon by friends or, worse, a public post that can be seen by all but only "liked" or commented upon by friends, either way it feels like "nyer nyer nyer look what you are missing" especially when it pops up on your newsfeed.

What's the point of being able to see a post if you can't even "like" it let alone comment on it?

(* - for those of us who choose to be on Facebook, before someone replies along the lines of "don't use Facebook then" or "I don't use Facebook" or "Facebook is for losers" or "I'm too cool to be on Facebook" or whatever)

You've clicked the wrong thread. You need the 'first world problems' one.

tongue out

Edit: It annoys me beyond reason - I'm on-topic. wink

Also: The reply "first world problems" also annoys me beyond reason. I apologise for being rich enough not to have to worry about the roof over my head, the food in my belly, or the quality of my drinking water.

But a post that you can't see on Facefk is a problem. Right..

Has anyone ever suggested to you that you get a life? Just a thought..

Says the person telling me that on an internet forum... wink

Besides, the point (clearly missed) that I was making was that Facebook's main thrust is to engage connections, grow networks, and increase connectivity (so they can profile people better and thrust targeted adverts at them, of course. You are the product). Showing you posts that you can't engage with doesn't promote that - quite the opposite, it causes alienation. I'd suggest that showing people posts they can't interact with is counter-productive.

But what do I know? Apparently I don't have a life and should get one. rolleyes

Also, I'd just add that people who tell someone to "get a life" are invariably blinkered closed-minded people who are either rigidly conformed to what society deems acceptable or else so sociopathic that the only acceptable definition of 'a life' is the same as their own.

I reject your "life" and choose my own.

I find that somewhat ironic given that it's you who is the Facebook sheep "rigidly conforming to what society deems acceptable" with all the other Facebook sheep whereas I do not use it and am about as non-conforming to society "norms" as it gets.

Which nicely leads me to today's 'things that annoy me beyond reason' : Facebook and its users.

Aye

"Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fk you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons."

Yet you are not a sheep by using PistonHeads? PistonHeads, Twitter, Facebook, whatever, they're all just conduits. If you accept one then you accept all.

Would you be happy to have my post on this thread thrust in your face but be unable to reply to it? I think not as you chose to respond to it.

Maybe I should get this thread changed to "read only" for you? smile
