Where you not a child once? Or were you born perfect at the age of 21? It annoys me beyond reason people who can't put up with children occasionally. I have two who happen to be quite well behaved, but even so it was just a youngster playing a game. Obviously you didn't ever scream or cry whilst you were a baby either.
How does this have any bearing whatsoever on the fact that I found it annoying?

Her (as I'm assuming it is) comment wouldn't look out of place on mumsnet.

Big red message on the TV "BBC 1 HD can not show local news from your region"

Why the hell can't they just go to SD instead? They have SD programmes because not all HD channel programmes are HD.

Excellent call.

That drives me mad too.

It's a fair point. It's probably something stupid and annoying beyond reason, like they can't detect your region and switch you to an upscaled version of your local regional BBC, and the only way to do it would be to have separate BBC One HD channels for each region like they have separate SD channels.

They are not that bloody local anyway. We used to get east and west BBC Anglia region news. Now it is all lumped into one and not worth watching anymore.

I don't see why this can't be coded somehow in the box software. Make it able to switch back to the HD version and then pop back at the end. Also when you switch over for the news they have started right away, can't they start the SD only bit for a trailer or something or give an on screen warning?

Certain sections of the media that won't shut up about Van Morrison's 70th birthday. I DON'T CARE.

Perhaps you could write to the media, and ask them only to report on things that interest you?

Pointless slow-motion replays in sports. I understand if it is to show a goal but why the fk do you insist on showing me slow-motion footage of somebody walking or spitting?

Doesn't sound very practical to me, in fact it annoys me when people make silly suggestions in response to other people complaining about annoying things. I don't have much contact with the media myself, but if I did and they kept telling me Van Morrison is 70 I would be annoyed too.

Talking about that. When they say on BBC1 and BBC1 HD. I know it is, shut up about it. We ALL know by now you have a HD channel.

SKY do not help either. Why could they not put BBC 1 HD and SD next to each other on the EPG.

I also find myself annoy you beyond reason at the condescending way some BBC News presenters say 'and now the news where you are'.

The way all channels (freeview) have ads at the same time so that flicking away is pointless. I go trawling anyway just in case, and my remote is getting worn out because of it. furious

That's an odd one actually. When I switched from a Sky SD to a Sky HD box, the EPG was reordered so that many of the HD channels appeared where the SD equivalents had been, but they noted on their website or the box's help page (I forget which) that they couldn't do this for the BBC. I suspect it's for the same reason - that the BBC maintains a different SD channel for each region but only one HD channel.
Having said that, if they can map your BBC1 SD channel of choice to 101 then I can't see why they can't map the BBC 1 HD channel to 101 instead.

I also note that you can't use the Sky+ app on your phone to download BBC iPlayer programmes - it says the BBC don't allow it and you have to do it via your remote on your actual Sky box, which is odd.

I agree it's all very annoying though.
