Total War is Total war, you do not understand it, how it happens or the needed suspension of morals to overcome that which has Zero morals from the outset.

Educate yourself.
Social psychologists might argue it has nothing to do with suspension of morals, all to do with obedience and conformity. Individual morals change to suit the situation. See Milgram or Zimbardo's famous early experiments. wink

Well they bloody well shouldn't have started it then.
I don't think the poor buggers on the receiving end did start it.
Well, how much did they do to stop it happening?
Who? Every individual civilian killed in a bombing run? I literally have no idea how much they did to stop it happening. Do you??

What a stupid question.
It's not a stupid question at all, it's the question that is at the heart of every war. Think about, and try to produce a more considered reply next time.
It is a stupid question. You asked what bombed civilians did to stop themselves being bombed (and by extension, I can presume you mean 'what did they do to prevent WWII?') and the answer is of course "I have no idea". How could I? I don't individually know the victims and can't possibly know what they did and didn't do.

If you mean what did the German nation do, then you are asking a different question but I would argue that it's a relatively unsympathetic one as standing up to the rise of Naziism was not a sensible course of action for those looking to provide for and keep safe their families.

Trapped between a rock and a hard place. Try and stop it risk being killed. Let it happen unchecked risk being bombed.

Your response is a stupid one. Look at the nested quotes and ask yourself who Cotty meant when he said "Well they bloody well shouldn't have started it then."?

if the bombers can get sympathy, then the bombees surely can too?
yes they should, but it does not remove the unfortunate need. To dismiss the pain and suffering however is flippant I agree.

As I posted back on Monday, something that annoys me beyond reason is people who take over a thread with a lengthy discussion that belongs in its own thread.

If you guys want to have a debate on the morals of war and the like, why don't you go and start a thread on it?

SIgh. We can do this forever. No, your response is a stupid one!

Cotty himself has managed to understand what I'm getting at so I'd suggest you go and read the nested quotes yourself. Or something else entirely. I care not.

It annoys me beyond reason when people reiterate things they said on Monday! wink

Nature of a discussion to veer of course a bit, no? Certainly I don't care enough to have a whole thread on it but care just enough to respond casually on this one but shall leave it if it's a problem.

Apologies, English is my second language, although that is no excuse as it is more than good enough to avoid that. I typed it on my phone, and didn't read it back before posting to correct those annoying errors.

Edit : Upon reading it back before editing, it annoyed me beyond reason also biggrin

These bombees, are they like kamikaze or do they carry a payload to drop on the target?
