Having to wait before clicking on a thread on PH, because the advert at the top loads a few seconds after the page, and a too-quick click will have the wrong thread opening because the page has suddenly jerked downwards.

What makes you think that?

Just never see adverts on PH with my ad-blocker on, as you were complaining about the ads loading I assumed you weren't running one, apologies if I am wrong.

Well, if I was it would evidently not be working, because there's an ad at the top of the page, and I have to wait a few moments extra for it to load and that annoys me.

And yet, over in Hollywood there is still a considerable variance between the wages paid to male and female actors.

OK

So on a basic level the females are thought of as being worth less.
So what? Reality check: If the male names pull in the punters why would you expect a less popular female to be paid the same? It's a business
Quite. Actors are mercenaries, and the leading ladies will say 'yes' to lower amounts of money than the leading men will.

Whose fault is that?

The dark filter added to a camera in a film to pretend that it's night even though there are clear sun cast shadows around everything and colours can still be made out.

Main dealer service departments.

Call dealer to book service.

Routed to centralised "service booking" contact centre as someone to answer the phone at the dealership would be ridiculous if you're not buying something.

Attempt to have discussion about an outstanding issue/warranty claim. Fail, as "this line is just for booking a service".

Receive quote for oil change and "inspection"service. Fight off laughter and then go through the list of completely unncessary "checks" that are carried out at £120/hour. I'm fairly sure that I don't need to pay them to check whether Daz the fitter sharted in the glovebox the last time it was serviced.

Agree the work that actually needs doing and inform them that I'll supply my own oil as I have before. Feel overwhelming disgust at the other end of the phone as they reluctantly agree. Politely enquire as to whether it's 5W30 or 5W40 as the manual/online checks are unclear. "Dunno mate, needs to be on the approved list though".

Enquire about a courtesy car. That will be £30 plus your own insurance sir. On top of £330 to change the oil. Decline this exceptional and customer-focused bargain.

Field four calls during the days leading up to the service reminding me that it's taking place and asking if I'll be prepared to give them five stars if chosen to participate in a follow-up survey. Before the service.

Arrive at dealer with 8l of 5W30 and 8l of 5W40 in the boot and explain this to the "service advisor", who appears to greet me a mere 25 mins late. Can I just leave the car/keys as I have somewhere to be? No, the service advisor needs to go over a "checklist" with me before taking the car in. This checklist consists of reminding me how important it is that they get a five star review.

Having only missed the "must be finished by" time by 90 mins, the dealer finally returns my calls to say that the car is ready. I arrive to collect to be told that if I want some nice fresh scratches added by a year-old Halfords sponge I'll have to wait another 20 mins. I decline, then remove all the items from the bill that I had specifically asked for not to be done (I'm very competent at ascertaining how much shart is in my glovebox by myself), then pay. I'm reminded twice of the need for a five star review as I wait for the car.

The car comes around. I have a quick look in the boot to see which oil they used. Left in the boot is one 4l tub of 5W30 and one of 5W40. "Skilled technicians" have clearly been working hard on my car for the same hourly rate as Robert Downey Jr.

Lengthy discussion with the service manager about the status of my warranty with two types of oil in the sump which he says will be unaffected but refuses to confirm such in writing. With a cheery farewell, I'm once more reminded of the importance of a five star review.

Over the following days I am called 14 times by an "Unknown" number that doesn't leave a message. I'm not in the habit of answering these calls but in the name of being able to use my phone for something else I answer the last one. "Hello Mr Beered (name pronounced incorrectly even though I just answered with my name), I'm calling from Large Prestigious German Finance House Which Occasionally Sells Cars, can you describe your experience?'

"Five stars" say I. I'm British after all.

Any phone call from any vehicle should annoy beyond reason every PH member.

Point Break
This technique sullied what was otherwise a triumph of cinematography......

On the subject of films, can I add the numerous skid marks, in car chase scenes which show where the stunt driver has been practising before the final take?

Definitely. That always used to annoy the hell out of me, even as a kid, on things like Street Hawk, Knight Rider and the A-Team. Street Hawk was particularly bad for it.

If we're on films then I always notice that car windscreens in films are crystal clear while in the real world you can see the dirt and dust on the parts that the windscreen wipers don't reach.

I wanted the (tres expensive) alloys on my car skimmed and painted. They were to keep my car for three days and asked £100 per wheel. I was told this was cheap for my particular type of wheel. When I asked if a courtesy car would be available to me the nice man on the other end actually laughed. "There's a train station only 10 minutes away".

Use of the term 'world class' to describe anything at all, ever. A more meaningless bullst phrase would be difficult to imagine. My ire has been prompted by the Home Secretary using it to describe the new warranted investigative powers she wants to give the secret squirrels and the police.

I was recently told by BMW that my car was ready for it's 'vehicle check service.' It has a full service in May and the MOT was done a month ago. When I asked what the vehicle check service looked at it was essentially a bit of a poke around at all of the bits that the MOT checks anyway. they asked if I wanted to book it in for £80. I declined.

Yep, main dealers. Due to circumstances my XF will have to go early, but splendidly it's come when it needs four new tyre so, back brakes and a service. I explained the situation to the service manager and that if anything needed doing could they keep it to a minimum. He agreed and later that day I got a call about the tyres - that's OK, I would get them done myself the following day at my regular tyre fitters - and that the rear discs were 70% worn but it definitely needed new pads.

Got the work done, then returned later to see one of the sales guys about buying the car off me after I'd settled the finance. He came back with a ludicrously low offer explaining that there were a few 'issues'. The tyres weren't Pirellis y'see, I know, they're Falkens that were a tender cheaper. The rear discs need replacing, no they don't, they're 70% worn, so in other words still have nearly a third of their life left in them. Yes but there's a few other things too, no there aren't, you just want to buy it for a song so you can stick it on the forecourt for £10k more than you're prepared to pay for it, goodbye and thanks for your time.

Kids with dummies in their mouths constantly. Don't come out with all that crap about children needing a dummy to keep them happy - I'm the father of two sons (both now grown up) and we didn't even own a fking dummy!
