Why is that a crass generalisation or mud slinging? When a human describes other humans as cockroaches what kind of response do you feel is adequate? Could you think of another word that could be more dehumanising? Are you not in agreement that it's the language of genocide?
If Cameron had said "cockroaches" that would mean something - Gaddafi did, and he paid for it.

Sorry, no touchy, feely st please. We are talking of cruel people traffickers taking relatively large amounts of money from illegal migrants. So burn the boats, turn them back to the beaches, don't encourage more and more to risk their lives (and enrich the traffickers)

Cockroaches are the worlds survivors. that is what she meant, read the original article.

and genocide, jesus wept.

What is happening in the waters between Africa and Italy is truly awful.

Desperate peoples crave a life beyond deprivation and misery and many die trying to make that possible. They are not cockroaches, they are not viruses, they are often desperate peoples who have been on the sharp and pointed end of some of the most extreme human brutality and oppression that we as a species have developed and quite happily and willingly use against one another.

As has been demonstrated time and time again on PH in very positive ways, words change lives, change thoughts, drive actions and deeds. Then just take a long hard look at what and how she writes. Hers are the words of withdrawal and separation, of disassociation, disconnection and worse, casual indifference; not caring.

Not caring; without care, without compassion for another human being's suffering.

Of course there are issues surrounding immigration into this country. But what she describes is a brutal and dispassionate mental approach that has scant regard and compassion for basic humanity. That, sadly is the virus she and her kind engender. It is the virus of apathy and me first. It is spread by cockroaches such as her who scuttle through life dropping their waste on the world, contaminating our lives with crap.
You're overthinking this.

Hopkins makes a noise that makes her fleetingly 'famous' amongst the hard of thinking.

That's it.

She's worked out what sort of noise makes her the most 'famous' and makes it.

Mission accomplished for a pathetic specimen unable to distinguish between attention and love.

Perhaps PH can be viewed as a sample survey of the general population?

The use of this term employs a word used with devastating results to describe the Tutsi minority and Hutu moderates during the 1994 Rwanda genocide when they were referred to by those responsible for the genocide as “cockroaches”. This fact is well known to journalists and is a matter of historical record proved by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in several judgments.'
I would imagine that most journalists would be insulted to be thought of in the same terms as Katie Hopkins, who is vacuous vicious click bait who would say anything to keep her 15 minutes of fame dragging on.

I think the rolleyes was more at the fact that there is a society of "black" lawyers. I imagine there would be more than a few rolleyes if there was a society of white lawyers.

There is a society of white lawyers, it's called the law society.

Can a white lawyer join the society of black lawyers?

The complainant doesn't do himself any favours with this crass generalisation and mud slinging:

'almost certainly all “trafficked” persons facing intimidation, violence and extortion at the point of departure represent some of the most vulnerable people in international law at the present time. Many will have legitimate claims for asylum under the 1951 Geneva Convention.

Linking Katie Hopkins,, who's only as harmful as someone's prepared to listen to her, with genocide (from 20 years ago in another part of the world), is absolutely-flat-out-go-straight-to-Godwin-do-not-pass-go-mental.

She provides enough material to criticise her with, there's just no need to make these leaps.

Would that stop her being able to post on Twitter, or write opinion pieces for tabloids? You would still hear about her bullst, and meanwhile, the UK is in chaos with Laurel and Hardy at the Helm.

I think she's gone too far this time - it's like she's turning into a parody of herself.
oh yes, way too far, NOT.

'What we need are gunships sending these boats back to their own country.'

what planet are you on exactly?
You are a vile person defending such bile.
Almost every person on those boats has a deeply tragic personal story of a life so horrific that they are prepared to give everything they own to traffickers and risk their lives just for the chance of living without fear of death.
The last two times I know of where whole groups of people were described as cockroaches were in dehumanising people for genocide and yet you think that Katie Hopkins is just saying everything we are all thinking. She is categorically not. She is saying what selfish, uncaring and nasty people like you are thinking.

My elderly mother has a carer who once arrived in our country like these people, but from Rwanda. She paid $5000 to be smuggled our of the country whilst the genocide was happening and managed to save one of three of her sons with her and none of the rest of the family. She couldn't afford it. Now she works for near-minimum wage doing a job that few natives will do and she is grateful. She risked her life, and that of her son on a similar journey because staying was even worse.
Most of the people on those boats have a similar story and in a lot of cases with the Syrians and Iraqis, we are in no small-part complicit in what is happening to them.
Still, she's only saying what we are all thinking isn't she?

one would imagine that the child(ren) was too small to go on his own - the one/s left behind were older and therefore better able to fend for themselves

that being said however it is curious how most of these poor souls seem to be men with families conspicuous by their rarity
