Could we possibly have a rational debate about this?

Probably half of us could...

Well, this is because he posted about evolution in the Ramadan thread, and did not like the responses, so started this thread. It is well worth reading for the hilarity value.

There is no such thing as a rational debate.

It's the same old arguments between each side, and those have been going for centuries.
So far, I haven't seen a single thread that settled science vs religion, and I'll put a packet of hob-nobs on this one not getting any further too.

A.k.a. "Survival of those who survived long enough to procreate?" It's a toughie, isn't it? Well, you are free to suggest a better theory and find your proof. That is how science works.

The theory of evolution has practical applications, that work.
The theory of creation has no practical applications at all.

Religious people can't reason with themselves, they shut there eyes and ears to science fact. How do you expect to debate with such nobbers?

Surely this is some sort of joke?

Even fervent educated relgionists believe in the principles of evolution and pretend the Garden of Eden is an allegory, don't they?

I am, of course, excluding religionist nutcases who believe anything said by a guy with a beard or shiny trinkets and a knack for chanting.

It's not much of a debate.

Someone that believes in creationism is hardly likely to be convinced by logic or evidence, it's a belief system not a scientific theory. hehe

Creation makes no sense at all.

Ok someone created us, which would mean that someone would have to be more complex than us.

Its like saying heres a machine, and trying to justify that it was made by a more complex machine, which would mean it would just go on and on when trying to find the origin of the machine maker ie impossible.

Theres evidence for evolution, wheres the evidence from creation?

That all relies on us being the most complex being.
I doubt we are.

What's the mechanism that naturalism offers to get from the simple ( goo) to the complex ( you) ?

You've got life, you can have that for the sake of the argument. (This does of course raise other questions.) How does this naturalistic mechanism, whatever it is, create new functionally specified genetic information *on the scale required* to get from goo to you making all of the novel structures and forms in living things along the way. You can have as long as you want. Remembering what NS does and does not do; similarly with mutations.
