"And even former BBC weatherman Michael Fish declared confidently: “It WILL be a White Christmas."
Oh because he's got a great track record

Our latest weather report from Guernsey is that they have slightly downgraded the intensity of the storm to gusts only up to 75mph but it will be accompanied by up to 40mm of rain through Monday into the early hours of Tuesday. The weather presently is very squally showers with the wind probably gusting up to 45/50mph. It's due to drop through the day before picking up again later tonight and through tomorrow.
My definition of a white Christmas must be out, I thought flakes had to land on the roof of the Met Office (London) but that Express article refers to anywhere in the country. If that's the case Fishy's comments aren't anywhere near as unreasonable, but the Express twaddle about traditional Yuletide scenes across the country is their usual fayre - and surprisingly, the quote from Powell doesn't support the Express' assertions.

That's how I remember it too. It's been a lovely, benign day here in North Hampshire. It felt a little odd to be bringning tables and chairs in and battening various things down through the garden.
This storm is going to be a whopper. Winds will be pretty close to those that St Jude's brought, but the rain will be biblical.
Drive safe everyone

I have been watching this thread and the speculation with interest; good frosts increase sales by around 20% almost immediately (vehicle glass).
The weather today to the north of Bristol has alternated between clear blue skies and heavily overcast skies with heavy showers. In the last hour we have seen a halistorm and the temperature drop from 7C to 2.5C in about five minutes. Once the hailstorm finished the temperature recovered very slowly and we have clear blue skies again.
Some spectacular rainbows today too.

Fairly similar http://www.dunfermline-weather.co.uk/weather/wdl/i...Apologies for getting all serious for a moment, but the rainfall levels forecast for England tomorrow are very concerning indeed. If you live in a flood prone area, I would strongly suggest you do what you can to get flood defences in place.
If you are in Scotland (particularly NW), you will have blizzards to look forward to.
Either way, the next 36 hours are going to be pretty stty for many people.
