Not a green boathouse in sight.

I do miss the smell of 600 litres of supercharged diesel firing up in the morning on a German training area wink
What trade?

Same here. A or B? I was one of the few 'U' VMs of the early 90's. I heard they brought that back in again. I'm guessing A given your quote.

We had 4 RTR with us in Osnabruck and would do the odd stint at the LAD to help out - I was at 12 Armd at the time. Became 1Bn later. And yes, hearing those bad boys start up is incredible. Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it.

I left before TG3 became TG4.

Happy memories, I'm glad I joined, but I probably left at the right time. Although I still have the What if thoughts!

Ive been getting them a lot recently. I got back in touch with some of the lads on linkedin who I haven't spoke to in maybe 10-12 years which is great, and they've flown up the ranks!! Some doing very well!!! Does make you wonder how things would have panned out, but 9 years was enough getting fked around in the Guards! Definitely made the right choice to pop smoke wink

I do miss parts of it but towards the end it went crap as we went getting any decent tours, and just getting messed around for the sake of it, gutted I missed out on Iraq & especially Afghan but was out a few years before they deployed.....and no way was I going back in.

Glad I did it and its set me up nicely for what I'm doing now, everything's worked out ok, but like I said.....I do wonder. I think if I'd joined a different unit (who actually look after their blokes!!!) maybe I'd still be in....

Part of the stint at Chertsey VB was development, prototype build, User and acceptance trials for Challenger ARRV. It was light years ahead of its predecessor with its 100+ tonne winch, 6.5 tonne crane, earth anchor/bulldozer and repair facilities. Doing unrestricted towing trials around Bovington with 130 + tonne was something to behold. In hindsight they were good times.

I will say you wouldn't recognise the trade now, I went from TG3 to 4 and things were messed up irreversibly. Banish the 'what if' thoughts straight away.

I was always a teensy bit jealous of the Recy Mechs for some of the kit they had. Then I remembered they were social outcasts that could barely write their own name while dribbling on the paper.

I did a stint with the Blues & Royals at Knightsbridge.

3 brand new sets of (2) riding & ceremonial boots to wax and bull in a weekend - lovely job...
