I certainly would not hand it in. You might as well just burn it to keep your house warm for a few hours.

If I didn't want to start a window cleaning company or something I can think of a few things I could buy cheap and pay people cash to restore and then sell on as if I had restored them myself .You may not make a 'profit' but the money you got back would be 'clean'

Same with renovating your house. Who is really going to check up on you for getting tradesmen to do some 'homers' on your house before selling it, so long as you aren't putting in swimming pools and orangaries

As others have said, It would also fund all your shopping/fuel/ nights out/ road trips, without raising any suspicion if you weren't being flash.

If it really came down to it and I was scared to keep it I would atleast distribute some of it to the homeless and charity tins before disposing of the rest..

A lot of the ideas to feed it into a cash business or use it in property investment over a period of years are good, but what if its all £20's which are due for renewal in 2020?

Do all you've planned alot quicker than expected, have contractors in your house full time laugh

Realistically though, how much would a bank take in cash to change over to the new notes without asking questions? Wouldn't they do it without you needing to have an account there either?

That's a good point. I don't imagine going into a bank with your rainy day money of £1k in an envelope would raise too much suspicion. Go on a road trip and visit all the banks in every town , visit twenty banks a day, party at night. After your 500 day road trip all your money would be the new stuff...It IS a lot of cash isn't it smile

Buy bitcoins, = profit..........?
You cant buy bitcoins with cash. You cant out that much cash into a bank account without it being reported for potentially moneylaundering.

Once its in the bank, its very easy. The problem is geting it there.

You could start a cash bsuiess, buying/seling cars. Start with the £500 driveway ones, show adverts etc and open a business bank account. Move on to cars worth a few 000. Take out a bank loan to pay for premesis, pahback with cash installments. Eventually move onto bigger premesis with more cars. But you"ll still need to be a cash business so you can pay in cash without arousing suspicion. And nobody spends £20k cash on a car these days, so any cash movemwnt thag big would warrant investigation.

Of course you can!

You just need to find someone who wants to sell them for cash and meet up somewhere.

There are even Bitcoin ATM's now but I am not sure f they accept cash or not.

That's what I was thinking, easier if you have your partner with you, maybe even a close family member aswell. Can add on buying gold under the £5k limit from a few different places, as well as hitting up a few beaure de change locations and getting some USD or Euros for your upcoming holidays.

For me, spending £1m cash over the course of a couple of years, maybe even a year, would be easy enough to do without causing a problem

If anyone has such a suitcase and is wondering, I am up for the challenge. I could start this afternoon.

Using cash as a store of value is difficult due to note changes etc. etc.

So

Over £500 you have to provide ID. I am not sure quite what they do with it, but I assume it’s logged somewhere and would at some point flag up if you did multiple transactions.
