Holy fk!

Is the ref only there to stop the winner literally killing the loser?

It seemed to me that several blows went in, and were allowed to go in, once the loser had totally dropped their guard. In particular towards the end of the clip there were several where the losers lights clearly go out before he's hit the floor but at once the victor leaps immediately upon the now defenceless loser to pound them in the face. Is this representative of the sport?
My thoughts exactly. I enjoy watching MMA stuff, but I get nothing whatsoever from watching one guy sit on top of the other and just hammer blows on his head.

Apparently it's part and parcel of MMA though.

Some get stopped early and some late. The refs are human. They're role is to prevent unnecessary injury whilst still allowing the downed fighter a decent chance to regain their composure. There have been some amazing come-backs.

Ultimately a "knockout highlight reel" is not going to be representative of a total sport.

But in a boxing match the winner will normally stop after knocking the other guy out, he doesn't need the ref to stop him from punching an unconscious man. I guess one of the differences is that boxers always stand to fight, so when one goes down it's really obvious that the fight is over. But I'd still contend that in a number of clips on the above link it must have been totally obvious to the winner than the other guy was out of it, but they smash their defenceless face anyway. Why do they do that? Are these guys in a minority in the sport? Or do they do it to show off/intimidate future opponents? Do they do it cos they know the other guy would've done the same to them? Is it in case the fight isn't actually "over" and they need to "be sure" the ref steps in? Just seems unsporting to me, but I've not watched much MMA, hence the questions as to whether this is normal for the sport or not. Cheers.

Only thing I thought was that the ref always seemed a few steps too far away - could have saved a few peopel some blows.

I spose the fighters will always say it should not be stopped until they are out cold as they may be able to recover.

Wosrt ones are those where someone is flat on their back but their head it resting at an angle on the net - not a good time to get smacked in the face with force.

He had low value cards to start but had a rep on the table as not playing crap. Decided to bluff.

Cards came down and he picks up a possible straight the other guy started to bluff big.

He got a low value pair of doubles, the other bloke goes all in, putting hium under serious pressure for his original bluff.

Mercier has a think and decides that the other bloke is either bluffing with 3/4 of a million dollars or his hand is strong enough to beat his possible straight. Have to say that the fella who lost could have played it a bit cooler at the table.

Calls it and lands it.

Big balls on that man.

Big balls indeed. He had one of the worst hands the flop could have offered him and still called a gargantuan bluff. Well read.

Cant stand to see someone JUMPING on another humans head, utterly sickening, same for continuing to lay into someone when they are clearly ko'ed. Scummy things to do. I dont have much love for a sucker punch ether.
You could see the decent blokes on that clip. They knew they'd knocked their opponent out and were prepared to wait and see if they had a chance of getting back up. Most though just piled on top and continued to smash their opponents face in

I get that there is a chance they could get back up but some of them made me squirm. It's amazing there aren't more long term serious brain injuries in MMA

Another epic fight compilation.
Somewhere in the middle is a scary scary man. He looks like a Batman villain, the chap he goes up against is like a lamb to the slaughter. The bite damage he does looks awful.

Do not buy a house on a rally stage.

If you must, garage your cars before the event.....

4:27 on, stay with it.

Ive always wondered who covers this sort of crap on rally stages.... it would piss me off so, so much to have that happen to my property. frown
Worthy trade off for having a rally to watch just outside your front door though.

I asked a similar question once before. I seem to remember the answer being that the competitors all pay a small insurance fee as part of the event fee. This then go's to paying for damage caused by competitors to walls/fence posts etc, which might be hard to attribute to a specific car, if 10 of them all hit the wall.

I don't know if that covers what happens when one car does a lot of easily attributable damage though.
