Not sure i'm sold on the design of the martians - but the way the effects have been integrated looks very authentic.I wish Spielberg's version had been more faithful to the book and was set at the appropriate time period. Setting it in the modern time meant that the "super duper impenetrable shield" mcguffin had to be invoked and thus it missed out on a very important aspect of the story - the hope and jubilation mankind felt when they scored minor victories (the Thunderchild in particular) - only to have those hopes sent to the bottom of the ocean by the flash of a heat ray.

So true. If they'd actually do the film of the book, it would all make much more sense. Though I did like the tom cruise version to be fair to it. Apart from the happy ending.Would love to see this video set to Jeff Wayne's music.
