My son (7) asked me what a VCR was and when I told him, his response was...
"granddad has got one of those"
I went round a friend's house at the weekend and his 7yo nephew was there watching an Indiana Jones film on VHS. It was oddly nostalgic how soft the picture was. I realised it was a really long time ago since I had actually used one and might never use one again."granddad has got one of those"
I remember spending £200 on a VCR. I found a receipt showing that my parents spent over £400 on one in the late 80s. Now they just sit under TVs where even the clocks on them no longer work.
On an entirely different subject, in a years time, it would be entirely legal to shag someone born in (January) 2000.

For me it's the realization (time and time again) that cars with the "new style" UK registration plates started appearing on our roads over 14 years ago..... I still think of them as new cars.
I couldn't agree more, I still consider Y plates as "new"! I've for a private "W" plate that my dad gifted to me 12 years ago at the tender age of 17, I plan on keeping it on my daily driver forever

Discussing gaming consoles with Master Blib, I mentioned the Commodore 64 v Sinclair Spectrum "wars".
"What are they?" He asked.
I hope you told him the ZX Spectrum is what put the "Great" into Great Britain and the Commodore 64 is something that was for people with body odour."What are they?" He asked.
I showed my son (7) a video on You Tube of the original SNES Mario Kart. He laughed.
Ranting at the apprentice to be careful with my tools, as they are older than he is. They are.
Going to a classic car show and remembering getting the launch brochures from the dealership.
Fitting an EGR valve and reminiscing about Webers and SU's. Then being told, shut up ya auld c**t.
Fitting brake discs that are bigger than my wheels used to be.
Star in the reasonably priced car? Yeah- he was in "The Lost Boys" - "Shut up ya auld c**t
Your car was made in 1979? That will be vintage then- Did you buy it new?
etc.etc.etc.

I saw a guy in a Calibra and remembered where I worked when I first saw one.....in about 1989!
Also:
Instead of looking at gorgeous young women and thinking 'How could I shag that?" I now look and think "Aren't they young.".
My doctor said "Well you are over 40 now and things will start to go wrong with you." Thanks a bunch for that motivation.

Tell me about it, I actually got a letter asking me to go for a blood test now I'm over 40 to check a few things. So let me get this straight, you want a healthy male with a needle phobia to voluntarily go and have a blood test because you want to check something, yeah that's not gonna happen

People calling each other a c**t. That makes me feel old as I don't remember people calling each other that in the past. Ok you might have said it to someone if they crashed into your car but not as a greeting. Star in the reasonably priced car? Yeah- he was in "The Lost Boys" - "Shut up ya auld c**t

I'm 29, and I appreciate that isnt that old. But When I look back at scientific papers from 1998 / 1999, years of which I have vivid memories of motorcycle racing events my dad took me too (including world superbikes at brands hatch in 1999), it makes me realise how far things have advanced since then. Even the way things were presented / formatted then compared to now makes the older stuff look old, depending on the journal
I know its kinda silly but it makes me think how far things have come along since I started school, let alone since I started university
