Apologies - too many pages to go through - but have we had "It's the same difference" ?

I always understood the phrase was "It's the same, but different" (or a close variation of that). 'Same difference' just makes no sense and annoys me, to the point where I have to correct people I hear using it.
surely 'same difference' refers to a situation where the individual considers either option equally poor.

...where the outcome is the same, whichever order a process is carried out?

I heard two women gossiping today, and one of them had news which was, apparently, "hot off the potato" !!!

If she was my partner, I would drop her like a hot press.

People also seem to be unable to differentiate between being and been.

I am a fan of literacy and proper grammar, but it does seem as if some people here are offended by trivial impurities in the language. Language evolves and new words are added constantly. We all Google things, for instance, although some will doubtless do a Google search. Quite a good and sensible writeup in the Guardian today that punctures a few holes in the religious view of grammar:

In the context of radio coverage of the apparent McCann Troll being found dead:

Troll is (IMHO) pronounced like 'doll', not like 'mole'.

Am I wrong?

One that always makes me see red is "You can't underestimate..." when it should be 'overestimate'.

It's a pity the moderator didn't practice what he preached and delete it due to poor grammar.

It's 'owing to', not 'due to'.
