surely 'same difference' refers to a situation where the individual considers either option equally poor. People also seem to be unable to differentiate between being and been.

I am a fan of literacy and proper grammar, but it does seem as if some people here are offended by trivial impurities in the language. Language evolves and new words are added constantly. We all Google things, for instance, although some will doubtless do a Google search. Quite a good and sensible writeup in the Guardian today that punctures a few holes in the religious view of grammar:
