Sleater Kinney are on the 6 Music playlist at the moment, the DJs can't seem to decide on the pronunciation. Some say Sleeter Kinney, others say Slater Kinney. Personally I'd go with Sleeter, and Slater does annoy me a bit. Which is it?
I picked up on that just this morning. Whoever the guy standing in for Chris Hawkins is, was pronouncing it as 'Slater', when i'm pretty sure it's always been 'Sleeter'.

And yet another new year has passed with the traditional murdering of Auld Lang Syne by the English.

Either sing/recite it properly or fk off and write your own.
As bad as Scots singing 'when will we see your likes again?'

'Flower of Scotland' is a terrible choice of anthem but at least get it right. OK it's only really one letter but I cringe when I hear it sung, maybe I have some kind of OCD. biggrin

Aussie news readers and their insistence that every NRL player is on dayboo every time they play for a new club.

its bad enough we get second hand coverage in NZ, but please just say debut.

Dont get me started on how they pronounce tonnes either lol.

"Careen"

Watching one of those aircrash investigation TV programmes last night the narrator said "the plane careened off the runway".

No it didn't. It careered off the runway.

To careen is to pull a boat out of the water and tip it on its side to scrape the hull.

On subject of planes in the last post above:

From the BBC reports this afternoon on The Alps Plane Crash:

Bally Eric Irelands spoken by 1 male reporter instead of Balearic Islands when referring to where some of the Spanish passengers were from.

Extra Ordinary instead of extraordinary by another reporter.

Another reporter referred to the plane crashing and "Murdering" everyone on board on impact. No they died or were killed in the crash, they certainly weren't murdered.

Another reporter was also reporting live from "Du Sulledorf" apparently.

If it was a terrorist attack (which it very probably wasn't) then they were murdered.

Adrian Chiles was interviewing Michael Portillo about some programme he's made on the death penalty on Radio Five earlier today and pronounced Albert Pierrepoint's name as if Pierrepoint were a Frenchman.

Ah yes I forgot about another one related to Terrorism.

Sky News reporter saying about how "we shouldn't speculate about the causes at this early stage", and then going on to ask a former Air Crash Investigator about the possibility of a terrorist / extremist cell bombing the plane.

Oh, so we ARE speculating then rolleyes
