You made it into the Cringe thread in the Lounge if it helps,
I hope you're joking! Why? For asking advice from people who know about whisky whilst acknowledging a) it's not for me, b) I know sweet FA about the subject - so thought I'd ask a bunch of people who are obviously passionate about the stuff. What a joke PH is becoming. Petrus1983 said:

Pretty much every contribution from the OP here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
In fairness most of what RobinEssex posts on here is easily ignored but also equally laughable. Look at some of the threads he's started more recently and you'll see most people just ignore his ramblings / rantings / link to a news story he read on the internet Other moronic rant threads include his offence at the Police taking far too long to deal with the aftermath of serious accidents on the road that involve death and the subsequent investigation / clean up involved, as well as the problems caused by suicidal people on bridges that ruin his day / progress

His best one was last year when he posted a thread ranting about how much he hated the BBC, how st they were, and that the licence fee should be scrapped, all because they weren't showing the last F1 GP race of 2014 live and he wanted to watch Lewis Hamilton win. It was then pointed out to him that it was infact live and he was a moron

OP makes 'joke' about LPG'ing his new 458, everyone calls bullst and now OP proves he has the car. All of a sudden much cock sucking and 'top wind up' posts from the naysayers. It's going to get sickening.

I was wondering when that would pop up here. However it isn't really cringeworthy, unless you count anything expensive as being so. It's someone saying they're getting it for another person, and asking for advice. Since there's a heck of a lot of knowledge in the whisky section I don't see why it's cringeworthy? If they'd posted it as a separate topic in The Lounge however...
If you were wondering when that would pop up here, why are you dismissing it as such?I know he was asking for advice. I know it was for someone else.
But the phrase "I'm about to pull the trigger on a 22 grand bottle of whisky" does induce a somewhat cringeworthy feeling - do you not agree?
If you overheard someone use that exact phrase in real life - what would your immediate response be?
Exactly.

It isn't what I would say, but it is the internet. You wouldn't say LOL in real life. I just see phrases like that as a way of saying things differently. It's nice to have a bit of variety in speech IMO. Some of the stuff that pops up here is great, but other parts are just being silly. It's like the Match thread - it pops up lots here, with many people saying it's not even worth posting since it's so bad. Yet what is more cringeworthy, people talking about dating or people spending their time on the net judging other posts?

only if you suffer from the green eyed monster. I know he was asking for advice. I know it was for someone else.

I think this came from the 'one single thing that makes you think knob' thread
I find his comment cringeworthy, because of course he's spent 30k on a Golf just to launch control people filtering in traffic.

Saying that I do love watches but have nothing anywhere near those, I realised I was being a bit boring yesterday when explaining what complications were to a work colleague
