Nothing wrong with the OP's question I suppose, but a few answers on their way to a "wealth whispers" type scenario...
Anybody willing to pay £160 for a T shirt is certifiable regardless of how much cash they have.

£160 t-shirts are a good conduit for removing money from people with £160 more than they deserve.

Where is a £160 t-shirt mentioned in that thread? I couldn't see it?

I don't think the thread is cringeworthy. Most* of the advice on there seems eminently sensible

Is that a real website? I must be a pleb as I buy Stone Island stuff, but their t shirts only cost about £85.

Is it any more excessive than driving a 5 litre engine Jaguar?

A 5 litre Jaguar is better than a 3 litre Jaguar?

"better" in what way. Its arguably worse... it costs more money to run and creates more pollution. Whilst doing the same thing.

Obviously for me/you the 5 litre is always better... but likewise someone may prefer the material quality/branding/design in a £200 t-shirt smile

But surely even if you don't think that a five liter engine is objectively better than a three liter, you can argue that because of the greater power it needs to be better engineered and hence goes some way to justifying it's higher price tag.

You can, of course, say that about a t-shirt, different materials or design might be worth a premium over ones of 'lesser' quality but there has to be a limit. I could maybe see why someone might pay £100 for a t-shirt if they really care about their clothes and that's what they are into, but above that?! Madness.

I don't think I've ever spent more than about £25 on a t-shirt, but then I am a bit of a pleb by PH standards biggrin

But you're just picking some arbitrary number and saying madness. I wouldn't spend £100 on a tshirt btw but I can see why people would. There is probably someone on a clothes forum right now thinking we're mad for spending £100k on a car. Its effectively the same thing... we're both going overboard on something completely unnecessary thats nothing more than a hobby.

This is true. I like to think I'm reasonably good at understanding why people spend so much money on things (like clothes) even if I wouldn't do it myself but there comes a point where I just can't understand it anymore. The guts of £200 on a t-shirt falls in the area of 'I just can't understand that' but then as you say, I suppose for many people spending £200k on a Ferrari would be looked at in the same way.

The most expensive tee that I own was around £175 but it has lasted 5 years without even the slightest fray and the logo also glows in the dark. Some people really like to wear nice clothes as, unless you're in bed, you're wearing clothes!

Unless your Tee Shirt is made from alloy it sounds remarkable, 5 years with no wear?

It puts spending £300 on a bike light into perspective biggrin

It doesn't matter if it lights up like a fking lighthouse, £175 for a T-shirt!!!!

It's his money.

I never understood people complaining about how others spend their money. If it's theirs, they can (and should) do what they like with it, so long as it's legal.

My mother takes the piss that I get my bedsheets laundered. Thinks it's a total waste of money. And that's, what, £13.50 a pop?

Different strokes.

Totally agree. Back when I first started working and had to be smart to the office, I used to have my work shirts cleaned every week, I think it was about £12 for 5 to be done. Saved me having to wash, dry and then iron them myself, and they felt a lot nicer too. Laundered sheets scratchchin I may have to try that.
