I've no idea how he manages. I couldn't imagine having to cut back that much.

Just imagine the tyre swing he could have in his enclosure with that sort of money.

Fair enough. Who would turn that down?

They must have they're reasons for paying him that, I'd have thought they could have found a better player than him for the money.

If I were offered £300,000 to do my job there's a fair chance I'd take them up on the offer.

Fair play to him I say. As above if I was offered that there would be no hesitation. How does the club make that pay though?

Funny how we're all capitalists, until the market decides that someone we feel superior to is worth far more than we are. That seems to bring out the hidden socialist in folk.

I would have thought over time some kind of equilibrium would be reached by what football fans are prepard to pay? I don't think the wider population is providing an income stream however, but I could be wrong if particular brand of aftershave is sponsoring him.

But as I have no real interest in football, nor do I buy football/sportsware clothing. If that's what he can get then good on him.
If you follow football and pay to see games/sky subscription etc, then I can see a grip as the costs will be passed down to you one way or another, but the solution is quite simple if you don't like it.

I think, in the situation they're in just now (poor on field performance, new manager, possibly no champions league football next year) failing to tie down their biggest names could lead to a downward spiral.

"Could they afford not to keep him?"

Just think. Crowd capacity at Old Trafford is about 75,000, and it is usually full on match days.

On Rooney's new salary, each and every one of them is paying £4, every week, just to see him come out to play ....
