'm self employed, however; my curent boss has said "head shave" upon a discussion over coffee this morning
The Hospice has all that sort of stuff organised already. This is purely a fundraiser in Mum's memory.
As I said to Longshot yesterday IF I'm allowed I'll create a thread/bump this one once everything is sorted
My hairdresser had her head shaved for charity October 2012. I remember it well, as I had my head shaved at the same time (although mine was for a Halloween costume). The Hospice has all that sort of stuff organised already. This is purely a fundraiser in Mum's memory.

Anyway, she raised a fair amount of money for doing it (circa £2000, if I remember correctly).
It's worth bearing in mind that your hair will take a decent amount of time to grow back. My hairdresser's hair is probably mid-way between a 'Bob' and shoulder length now, but it has taken over a year to get back to that length. Which is mad, when you consider I had to have mine cut again after 3 months (and I don't have mine too short).

I don't see the head shave as an easy option - yes it's just clippers & it's gone but to a woman her hair is her crowning glory & I LOVE my hair - it would be exceedingly emotional not to have it anymore - a part of me would be missing.
One of the women in our office shaved her head for charity last year. I'd gladly have paid her to keep it - looked totally scary without it, she wasn't all that pretty at the best of times.Whatever challenge you set yourself make it realistic and not too dangerous!
First, sorry for you loss.
Secondly, while this is going to come across as harsh, my facebook is full of people doing something noble for charity, all asking for money. It's become the norm.
I would encourage you to think outside the box a little, and organise an event that people will enjoy in aid of the Charity. Id be far more giving in that sort of environment.
Ideas off the cuff, a Car Fest, a beach based swimathom (in the summer) with entertainment etc, a giant murder mystery etc.... Anything in particular that your mum liked?
Best of luck in whatever you do decide...

Sorry for your loss Ali Kat, I lost my dad a few years ago. Another idea could be what I did at work last year, a Scalextric time trial - it raised over £200 for Cancer Research UK in just over 3 hours which my employers matched. I charged £1 a lap and those fine people at Scalextric donated a set as a prize for the fastest person.

However, as I replied earlier in the thread to someone else - I simply don't have time to organise so,etching
Thus this is me wanting to make a sacrifice & fund raise. It costs just over £7k to run the Hospice for a day & that's my goal; it may take me a couple of years, but so be it! I already donate a little time, but with working away from home all week, my Father with Alzheimer's that we are trying to keep in the family home so we help care for him, and my FiL also has Alzheimer's so we try to spend one weekend with them a month - time is scarce for myself & my partner to find time to do the housework, let alone have time to go out for dinner, or the pub, or stuff you take for granted that you do with yours
Hence a swim is easier for me - I can train whilst away in a hotel all week.
Having my head shaved is even easier, although much more dramatic & traumatic!
