Cutting your hair does offer you a great opportunity and the potential to make a bit more money.

It is the ideal opportunity to have your hair dyed absolutely any colour you like as it will be shaved off a few days later.

Any colours you've ever been tempted by.

Would someone donate £50 to see you with blue, red or green hair?

Also the chance for any style too. A green 2ft long (high) mohican perhaps?

Obviously I wont read 5 pages of other people's opinions so this may have been said, but if you can swim that far why not swim the channel? THat would be a huge achievement and something you can tell your grandkids (or anyone who will listen of course)
Swimming a marathon is quite an achievement but "I swam loads of lengths of a pool" versus "I swam the channel" is a no brainer.
I'd offer to join you but about 50 metres is my stamina limit.

My wife shaved her head for charity last year. Made over £1500 with very little effort. I'm sure you could make much more if you tap in to the PH community. Why not do it at the Pie&Piston event? Hold an auction, the prize being the winner does the shaving!

ETA, the wife looked great with a skin head.

Because that takes years of training & you still aren't guaranteed to do it due to weather & currents smile

And because ATM that's my stamina too wink

THey don't allow it unfortunately. Whilst it sounds a bit mean spirited on the face of it, with a million or so poster (or however many it is) if they did allow it there would be hundreds of threads all the time for this kind of thing.

Oh, if I can tap you all up - I will!! But I have to ask permission & sort what I'm doing first!

BTaP has it's own charity it supports, besides its in April this year & I'm not going weeping

Plus I want to be able to sell the hair/have a scalp left wink

My Mam shaved her head for Locks Of Love about 10 years ago and raised about 5 grand as well as making 2 wigs.

If you do want to donate your hair then it will need to be cut off not shaved off as clippers damage the hair and the wig makers will have to trim it to make the wig.

Why don't you have your hair shaved bald and then make it into a wig in the identical style of your original hair and wear it whilst banking all your sponsors money and gloating?

There's plenty of open water swims, I thought that most of the 5km or 10km were open water events rather than in the pool. Happy to be corrected.

When you say marathon Ali, did you mean 26 miles or a 10k swim? - I've heard that distance nicknamed the swimmer's marathon.

I committed to a charity swim last year; and while I raised money for the cause I had entered it mainly because I wanted to do it. It turned out to be the best thing I did last year. So, with an added selfish perspective, win win! Go with the swim. biggrin

I meant 26 miles, but in the pool - the 10m for a marathon tends to be open water from what I've read.

1,674 lengths, assuming a 25 metre pool.

My word that's impressive.

One thing, I am quite a bit quicker (35% or so) in open water than the pool, although I don't know how much of that is down to the wetsuit. I guess as an ex swim teacher you're better placed to answer that than I, but it may be easier in open water.

Anyway, making the challenge easier isn't the aim! Good luck with it. thumbup

I managed 20 lengths last night & every bit of me hurts today - I've not swam for decades (holiday pools don't count!)

Pool swimming comes with it's own dangers - one of the guys that attempted this in the US says he lost all his hair due toto much immersion in chlorine!

yikes
