That carport appears to have a massive amount of camber to the rear right. Would annoy the hell out of me that it wasn't levelled off then a slight drainage camber

Can i ask, what is the point of a non-closed roof carport? I cant think of anything but stopping big branches coming down off the tree (and if said branches are big enough, the carport wont hold anyway)

Roof isn't on yet.

Rear middle post not central.
That and the gap to the end at the rear looks different at each side.

Maybe this is a pic before those front to rear beams have been properly secured.... scratchchin
Do you mean the overhang on the two long beams that go left to right on top of the uprights? If so, and if you mean the distance to the end I would guess the back right end has been cut short to avoid touching the tree? I think I'd have built it six inches further left if that's the case. The middle upright at the back isn't central either - perhaps it would all fit better if everything was moved to line up with this.

No... I'm referring to the planks which run fore to aft that lie on top of the main cross beams. If you look at the plank on the extreme right, it's quite close to the end of the beam at the rear. If you look at the one on the extreme left, it seems further away from the end. So, the spacing hasn't been measured properly, which maybe contributes to the fact that the middle plank is not neatly aligned over the central support at the rear.

I hate OCD sometimes.

Ah right. The one on the extreme right doesn't sit in the same place above the two uprights either, which looks as though the whole thing itself isn't square. It looks like the front post is either too far to the right or the rear post is too far to the left.

F***, the only sensible thing to do is to knock it down and start again - it's your duty, I think, to point this out to your mate.

Why do people say communial?

I get it a lot - I work in the construction industry and you wouldn't believe the amount of mis-named communal areas on resi projects. Winds me up every time I hear it or see it written, I immediately assume that the person responsible is as thick as sh*t.
Worse than that - why are there so many illiterate professional signwriters around?

I couldn't believe my eyes last week when I saw a professionally signwritten van belonging to a firm that does spot-hire of bin wagons and other similar vehicles.

'Firow - Munciple Vehicle Hire'. All over the van.

What the shuddering fk does Munciple mean? I can only assume when looking at their other correctly signwritten vehicles that it meant to say Municipal.

So, a mate has just got what is on the face of it a lovely looking new car port.

However now I've seen it, my ocd can't unsee it. I haven't got the heart to mention it either...
Not sure about the placement of the end two beams, perspective being able to play tricks and all, but the reason the centre beam doesn't lie directly over the rear middle upright could be it's position corresponds to width of the (I presume) polycarbonate roof sheets being used and thus the most economic use, thereof. Though that might mean starting from the left hand side, full sheet....full sheet....full sheet....full sheet aaaaaaaaand a tiny strip cut down. Don't post that pic OP, all hell will break loose!

There is a pub in Chester which has a sign saying "The Marlbororough Arms"

The story I heard in 1980's was that it was mis-painted (presumably by a sign writer being paid in beer - in advance) and when the landlord realised and took it down the regulars demanded it be reinstated

I can't handle the tech to post a picture but the post code for street view is CH1 1DA

yawn regarding the car port. The angle of the photo doesn't really help work out whether there is actually anything wrong...

I suspect the signwriters know full well - I can imagine the cost of various signs on a price list, plus offering the services of a proof-reader for a small added fee.

Thats very true! Although its now knocked down and had flats built on it, there used to be a carwash that also sold tyres in Shepherds Bush, on the corner of Goldhawk Rd & Hammersmith Grove- they offered "Free Feeting" for their tyres.

The tyre/car wash was run by Manuel, late of Fawlty Towers, obviously!
