I think the Metro is referring to the commonplace banker piss take toward the loud & brash Essex back-office boys wearing pointy shoes and shiny suits, pretending to be hot shot bankers whilst blowing £20 on a bottle of cava at Abacus.

I wear Doc Marten's and brothel creepers which have rounded toes but my smart shoes are slightly tapered - not as much as I'd like, though, because I'd really like some winklepickers.
According to a close acquaintance, my tapered shoes are chavvy. He is, incidentally, also a PHer.
