I struggle with this a bit too, just on the last day of 2 weeks off and really struggled to keep from getting very bored! I found exercise a really key ingredient - a 2 hour cycle or long brisk walk in the morning really makes you feel good, and then you feel far less guilty chilling in the afternoon watching a film etc.

How about an adult education course to introduce you to some new hobbies? Photography / art /writing etc?

I don't do anything on my days off. But having said that, I don't actually have any days on so the weeks just meld into one long expanse.

"I find the key is to think of a day as units of time, each unit consisting of no more than thirty minutes. Full hours can be a little bit intimidating and most activities take about half an hour. Taking a bath: one unit, watching Countdown: one unit, web-based research: two units, exercising: three units, having my hair carefully dishevelled: four units. It's amazing how the day fills up, and I often wonder, to be absolutely honest, if I'd ever have time for a job; how do people cram them in?"

My pattern is 2 weeks on and 3 weeks off,

So I tend to work on restoring a car in the garage. Or spread betting if its a really horrible cold day.

Sundays are my only day off due to a heavy work load at the moment. so listed below is a standard sunday for myself.

8/9am wake up and cook fry up.

10/11 after breakfast has gone down go for 20+ mile cycle ride then followed by a 6k run ( training for a local sprint triathlon event I entered last week)

1/2 stuff my face after the cycle/run shower and recover

2/4 have a tidy up and put washing on, walk to town for shopping an odd jobs that need doing

5/6 walk to the local park probably to have a play with my camera

6/10 generally cook lunch for the following day then cook dinner, other half works sundays so relax with her when she comes home from work. Either watch some TV or go to the local cinema then off to bed.

I can waste a day like the best of people. I can easily stay in bed till PM but I don't want to waste my days off. The key I find is just to plan it that same way you would with your work day.

If your looking for motivation to do something then maybe enter a future sporting event. You will be amazed how much more motivation you will have to train and research when you have a financial investment in something

Does anyone have any suggestions how i could maybe make more friends?
Take up a class - be it learning basic DIY or a new language.

It would need to be something you're interested in or feel you might find captivating, or otherwise the thought of dragging yourself out of your front door to go to the class will become a chore.

I'm never bored. There's always something to do in the garden, and my reading pile could be measured in feet.

Perhaps it's because I'm an only child, and grew up in an area where there were no other children to play with, that I've always been able to amuse myself.

There's a reason I live alone in the middle of nowhere. There are very few people I can stand the sight of, and those I can are my very good friends. Socialising for the sake of it fills me with horror.

As much as it gets.

I have 9 acres of land to myself.

Well, you can keep yourself to yourself in Tooting. Just don't go out unless you have to.

The issue with MC's recommendation is that whilst I do have gardening to do, I don't enjoy it. I do it out of necessity (and that means mowing and hacking down excess greenery rather than repotting the hibiscus).

Generally I will have a nice lazy morning. Watch some TV, browse PH/ Autotrader/ Facebook etc.

Then in the afternoon if I've got no plans I'll either take the car out for a good drive (with my camera if I find a nice place to stop for some photography). If funds don't allow I'll spend some time washing/ polishing it.

I then top the day off with a nice film in the evening biggrin

Lovely jubbly!

I live on the edge of the Solent. Access to endless miles of nothing at my soggy toes.

If I can't get to France as I have to do the school run I drive down to Dover and do a little urban exploring. I was a bit lost at the beginning of the year as the wife went to Capetown for 3weeks. I went out with my uncle and drove around every road in Folkestone. It was great chatting about what streets we had never been to. Op Maybe you could walk/cycle your local area.
In the better weather I'm going to ride every road in thanet, looking for a good tracking app.
