I haven't trawled 4 pages of dribble .. but ask yourself this "would you call someone a *whatever* to their face?". If not then it's probably not acceptable terminology. The context is hugely important - also words that are used here don't make sense in the US and vice-versa.
Your answer is in the 4 pages of dribble....people would call a jap a jap because a) they dont care if they are called a Brit b) whatever next, can we not say "insert stupid example of word in different context that has two tenths of f*uck all to do with anything"

'jap' has a different meaning to me (UK) to an American.

Can you see that?

Have you paid any thought to what it might mean to a Japanese person?

Outside of today, no.

I DON'T speak for every fking japanese person, but at the same time I post sometimes on an american/japanese forum.

I Know that if I have fked up again in the past, I can accept this. Pistonheads consensus seems to be 'fk em' and a lot of uneducated pistonheaders(where does the apostrophe go here) back them up.

I Like Pistonheads, I want it to succeed.

I see xenophobic comments being backed up and well... frown

There isn't one, it's a plural not a possessive; there should be a question mark, though.

I often wonder if the people who recognize racism in just about everything, are more racist than the people who they accuse.

Do you? I don't.

I would imagine there are some "people who recognise racism in just about everything", but so what? It doesn't mean that a certain amount of racism - or plain old xenophobia - doesn't exist, does it?

This is a bit like getting people to put their lights on when they drive through the Blackwall Tunnel. Some people say "I don't need to, I can see where I'm going". Of course, they are missing the whole point.

So would you call a Japanese person a "Jap" to their face, or in their earshot?
