Sorry, what? You don't wear shoes in the house? Are you retired?
Careful you could get banned for ageism wink

I never wear shoes in the house and don't own slippers, always walk around barefoot or just in socks. Mind you I am nearly of retirement age.
I never wear shoes in the house, I hate shoes and socks; they both come off as soon as I get in.

As for is your "joint being cased" sounds like it and I wouldn't be surprised if the Dominoes leaflet is a cover to give them an excuse if they are seen walking up your drive to the front door; bet they had a peek through the letter box too.

I am mindful of not setting a routine. I will also put myself about the neighbourhood to see if others have noticed anything. There is a neighbourhood watch so I will contact them and see if they have any information.

Shamefully, despite being here a few months I don't know too much about my neighbours, I will certainly try to be a bit more proactive in this area.

My wife is annoyed at me for confronting the teenagers, she says that I have just possibly initiated a vendetta that will last till these kids leave home in about 10 years time - she is fully expecting dog poo through the letterbox anytime now.

Leaflet only posted halfway in so they could see if you was in. Next time leave it hanging halfway out and don't go near the windows.

OP, I've had an idea. Buy a dog kennel, just the little hut type ones like you see on American cartoons. Simpsons etc. Get Rex written on it. Place kennel by car. Have some really thick chain pegged into the driveway and into the kennel. Get a large teddy, which is slightly Alsatian coloured and put in kennel. Maybe even a speaker with occasional grunts and growls. Also go to the butchers and get a very large bone and leave it outside the kennel. Signs everywhere saying 'no reps' 'beware of the dog' 'it's not the dog you want to watch, it's the wife' etc.

That should put them off and you don't have to feed a fake dog. Or take it out for walks. You could go to the local park and collect some dog st and scatter it around your driveway to add to the illusion.
Is it ok if I write 'Rex' on it myself? Seems a bit of a hassle to get someone else to do it.

At least it will save you collecting it from the park for the fake dog

Don't want to alarm you OP, but I heard about this tactic on local radio. The flyers, placed there by the thieving scroats, are left there to see if you are at home or not. I wonder if your neighbours have had the same flyer. If not, they must consider your house a better target. Why might that be?

Take number plates, photographs, report to police etc. Alert your neighbours. Probably leave a radio on or something similar during the day if you are out. look at any weak spots in your security. If they want to get in to our houses, they probably will, but the degree of difficulty and time involved may be a factor in them being put off or discovered...

Depends how good your hand writing is I suppose. We need it to look professional

I might go for a stencil then - add a bit of 'military' cred. The allusion that Rex might just be a retired trained killer with a 'repertoire'.

How much to have the security post fitted if I may ask? sounds like the way to go if it is not too much money.

Don't get me wrong, none of this particularly bothers me, but it is a situation that needs addressing to some degree.

I guess the most important thing is to make sure house insurance is up to snuff and maybe finally get that gap insurance on the car. If they come in the night time then they can have anything they want from the drive or the downstairs - I am not particularly bothered, everything can be replaced after all - my interest would be piqued if they try and venture up the stairs though.

Thanks for that but the more I think about the security post the more I can imagine either me or the wife forgetting it is there when reversing out of the drive!

I like your thinking. Maybe get the Mrs to 'like' a few Facebook pages like 'retired 4 legged heroes' 'battalion biters' 'afghans Alsatian trust'. Just incase they are snooping on Facebook for details of your holiday plans. (So they know when the house is empty, not because they want a postcard)

If you had an rs4 I would say they were taking videos of the interior for the seats, do the s3 come with the Recaros?

I would stick a post up too and not leave the keys anywhere, maybe stick a disklock on the steering wheel to let them know you're trying to make it hard work.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks of that add every time a car security thread appears. I wonder if the OP lives near enough to a bridge? biggrin

I looked at the leaflet and it was a standard Dominoes one - but they had only appeared to post at my house and none of the other houses.
Next time. Walk over to tea leaves with Dominoes leaflet and say "Excuse me chaps, I think you posted this through my door. I don't like Pizza."

Certainly not time yet to bother the boys in blue but I remain a little on edge.
I'd disagree! It's obviously not worth calling 999 however is worth calling their non-emergency line and/or speaking to your local PCSO's. They may well just start walking by or driving by the area or it might tie in with other reports they have had.

It's certainly not a waste of their time as they will decide what priority to give it.

Oddly enough a neighbour of mine has just had her back door smashed in, in broad daylight, by 3 guys in an attempt to find the keys to her Audi S3. She had just gone on holiday the evening before, which may suggest they had been watching and knew the house was empty.

Personally, I wouldn't be installing security posts etc as that may increase the likelihood of them having to come and find you in order to get the car away, rather than put them off completely.

Defo speak to neighbours and see if they have seen anything. Do you have a neighbourhood PCSO? We have a chap we can speak to about this stuff who seems pretty on the ball about things.
