I never thought it would be so difficult. I know it's down to personal choice but I think it's time to call in for PH help! What do you guys think of these options:

William Heaton
Thomas Heaton
Luca Heaton
James Heaton
Felix Heaton

I wanted to go with Aston but it doesn't really work.

I'm hoping someone will come up with some good reasons why I shouldn't choose one or the other. I've been staring at the list for so long trying to think of nicknames he's get at school etc. Part of me feels I'm over-thinking it, another part knows he'll be stuck with it forever.

I'd go with Brett or Cobra, in your shoes.

If the baby feels the cold, call it Turnda
If you will spend a fortune on its education, call it Wento

Out of those I'd choose Thomas Heaton. It's a good name.

You can never over think it. One thing people often overlook is that the poor bd might have to spell their name out every single time they make a telephone call or talk to someone noting their name. This doesn't really apply in your case as you've gone with traditional spellings of regular forenames with a straight forward surname although Thomas & James may have to repeat 'Heaton, not Seaton' on occasion. smile
I wouldn't worry about having to spell his name! I have an unusual name and just habitually spell it - it's really not a problem and I like having a name that's not the same as everyone else's. Always a good talking point with secretaries and PA's and whatnot.

You should borrow my first name. Sam Heaton, or even Samuel Heaton. They both sound good.

Don't tell everyone about it though, I like being the only Sam in my wider circle of friends and family.

Lazarus Heaton sounds like an aristocratic rogue. Which is pretty much the minimum you should do for your child in terms of giving them a start in life.

Lazarus Heaton will ALWAYS get an interview call back, get away with murder, have eccentric behaviour completely accepted by women and more. I'm actually angry it's not my name.

Imagine in a few years and your son is bowling down to Cannes in an E-Type he 'borrowed' from an associate. He walks the girl he picked up in Troyes up to the counter, pops his Persols down and says "Yes, my usual suite please...It's Heaton. Lazarus Heaton..."

They're all pretty good, solid ideas. But change the surname.

It's very personal but I went for a nice traditional name that wasn't a fad when naming my son Mark. There's a woman in my street named her daughter Chelsea which makes me cringe when her drunk friends shout it at the top of their voices during summer BBQ's.

When we chose, we thought of names that were less likely to get him mocked at school. For that reason I'd maybe not pick Felix. James is nice and traditional although maybe not unique enough for some.
