Headsup - too early to be certain, but Hurricane Bertha is currently on track to miss any land in N America, and then boomerang back to our side of the Atlantic. Next weekend could be decidedly awful.

Of course, it will just be a depression when it reaches us, but it could bring an awful lot of wind, rain and storms.

Guess who's on a cross channel ferry on Sunday night? irked

Bullseye!

Heavy rain in the SW tonight, followed by Bertha on Sunday. As you can see from the above chart (which updates) - we're in the firing line for some wet and windy weather - but it won't be any where near hurricane force.

Ride London should be nice on Sunday then! Might have to take the commuter bike with mudguards.

If you're on the Portsmouth-Caen overnight then yes - my kids are unruly hehe

The charts don't have a clue how to handle this, widely varying outcomes, but the most common appears to be good news - although we'll still get wet weather associated with an Atlantic low, it seems that it will have mostly blown itself out before it reaches us. Current most likely trajectory is down the Channel between England/France.

Aww I was hoping to empty the shed and give it a good tidy up on saturday, will have to stay inside drinking beer instead.

It's a very grey day in Marlow atm, had a few heavy burts of rain this morning but it's still warm!

Saturday sees a short lived ridge of high pressure - excuse well and truly busted!

That's a relief, we're on the Newhaven-Dieppe overnight, so you'll get any bad weather slightly before us! wink

Sunny spells in Horsham, when the sun is out it's very warm. I have been outside for a couple of hours weeding the drive and just had to change clothes as I've been sweating buckets!!

True, but I dont want to have all my stock spread out on the lawn and it hammers it down for 10 minutes!

Maybe if I nail some tarp to each fence we have and cover the whole garden...

Current thoughts are that Bertha is now likely to deepen and then scream up the Channel during Sunday - hopefully clearing out of the way before our ferry!

Tough st to our friends on a cruise ship in the Bay of Biscay hehe

It has to be said though - [touch wood] we're having a pretty damn good summer so far, and long may it continue.
The short, sharp shock downpours have kept the garden happy and things are growing like crazy. My slightly exotic plant collection including a Banana plant, Datura [angel's trumpet] and tree fern have never looked so good!

Not going to be fun for the South Coast gardens either though, even 30-40mph gusts will ruin a lot of fruit/veg this time of year.

I'm hoping it turns well north or south, but not hopeful.

Me and a pal are on a Monday afternoon Dover-Calais crossing in a pair of ridiculous old German cars. Am hoping all this st will have gone by then and we'll have a dry run down to the Hotel de France.

Benjj - our house is 5 mins from the Hotel de France (assuming you mean La Chartre sur le Loir). We should pop over for a 1664!

Assuming our ferry doesn't sink on Sunday night!

The Flying Ants appear to have returned with a vengeance in Central London in the last hour or so!

Anyone else?

Been a gorgeous day otherwise. smile

That might well explain the lack of birds feeding on the bird feeders in my garden this afternoon.

We had our flying ant day a couple of weeks ago, it was carnage... something out of the plagues of Egypt.
