Personally I think less of the money should be spent and more of it be given back in winnings.

I wonder how many hand over their hard earned thinking 'Wow, I really hope a Scottish Art gallery is a bit closer to getting a new painting because of that'.

They didn't use much fanfare when they added another 10 balls to the draw did they?

I have a feeling the UK lotto is on it's way out, I've lost interest - I've not won a bean in more than 3 years, probably longer and I play most weekends, it's starting to feel like an idiot tax.

Oddly, even though they seem "a bit council" to me, I've bought the odd scratch card recently, I've won a couple of £20 prizes - I refuse to join that little group in the shop who scratch them on the little counter, they all look a bit desperate.

Lottery has been on its way out for years. Ever since people saw the Euromillions jackpots the people who just play for the big money go and play that instead. Becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as jackpots get smaller fewer people play and so jackpot gets smaller again. Increasing the price to £2 was manageable for people, but increasing the price and decreasing the odds doesnt make it very appealing for anyone with sense.

At a £1 I thought it was worth a punt every draw, now its twice that AND the odds have gone through the roof, as a betting man:

Just cancelled my DD for the Lotto. Unsure what to put in its place. Health Lotto, Postcode? Maybe even the Irish! Time to have a read and see.

On their website they tried to sell it as a benefit, as you now had more choice!

Well I suppose you have to admire the effort.

Nah I'm out - I'll be honest, I don't play for the chance to win £25 or even £50k for 5+BB, I'm playing for the dream of winning a big pile of cash to swim around in like Scrooge McDuck and I'm not filling my pool with coins - so I'll need to stick to the Euros.

Someone was telling me ( a taxi driver in London ) that if you don't go public after winning, you get the money split yearly, until full amount is paid. Anyone know if this is bullst?
Must be true, a cabby said. hehe

No, it's not true.
Might be true in the States.
Lotto winnings are not tax exempt in some states.

Camelot claim people want the smaller prizes!
Bit of a strange position considering they have made the odds of winning a smaller prize worse (in the case of £25 for 3 numbers it has gone from 57:1 to 97:1).
That was when get the minimum to £25. I suspect that In reality, they knew the extra numbers were coming and wanted to put a spin on things.

bless.

Each of the changes made recently have been negative. Like the above post, I think most play for the retirement win not for the bag of chips win. Winning £25 once a year won't make a big difference to anyone who can afford to play. However, beating odds of 7.5m to one or 45m to one and winning £30k or £4.5m respectively is just woeful.

No wonder many of the euromillions jackpots are won by Brits, the British lotto is gash.

I had my numbers come to me in a dream, 5 correct and a bonus ball I won £100k. Imagine my surprise when I put them on and a week later number after number, didn't come up.

Anyway years later, I stuck with it till it went to £2, then I quit some weeks later. This is great news for me as I know I had even less chance than before so I don't think, what if.

I did once bump into a guy at the local petrol station who lost out on 30 odd million on the euros as he was late for work and left his weekly ticket stub in his locker. Now that is a bummer, I asked him how he hadn't killed himself.

Seems many will just move away from the lottery, this is a great excuse for them. If it was still £1 id still play. I'd rather put £2 on a coupon.

And now we have the biggest EVER Lotto jackpot. Since with the new 1 in 45 million odds brought about by the introduction of 59 balls. It's seemingly unwinnable.

That is the idea though, more people seem to play when the prize is bigger

I just keep winning free draws.

Once the pot reaches £50 mil,, there will be one more rollover and the prize must be won.

If nobody matches six numbers, the top prize will be given to ticket holders with five numbers and a bonus ball.
This is interesting.
If it drops down to the 5+bonus, this has also become rediculously hard to win. Odds are still 7 million to one. Would it all drop down to 5 ball (usually about 80 people win that) if no one had the bonus?

Would make that prize pot huge for 5 balls

As I've said before, bloke down the road with £6 million in his back pocket, would tend to disagree with you.

Who actually needs 40 odd million, it is a ludicrous amount of money, for most people a million or two is all the money they will ever need, as humans we only need so much stuff, this is why the super rich have to have other stuff to buy, i.e. normal stuff with diamonds on usually, I think such an amount may actually do more harm than good for a lot of people as it would be difficult to have a normal life, for me, a million would enable me to put money by for the kids to get ont he property ladder, couple of nice holidays, better cars, few jobs on the house and a few quid put by, not a complete change of life like 40 million would cause, but my life, which I am happy with, but a bit better.

Who actually needs to be on the property ladder?

It's handy having somewhere to live I find.
