Why the issue if they have paid for it? I have previously mentioned on another "ebay" forum that everyone starts on 0 feedback so I don't understand why alot of people just assume that they will be ripped off? I started on 0 feedback just like everyone else & I didn't turn out to be a thief!!!!! I really don't get this negative attitude towards new members on Ebay.

Here is the clue:
Their paypal address is verified but without a house number or even a road, for example Aston, Birmingham, BH1 etc. They've paid straight away and sent an email saying they've made a mistake on their address and its number 1 High Street

They've hijacked someone's Paypal account via a phishing email, and linked it to a new eBay account.

Do you know I see a lot of Paypal address things that would give the spelling police on here kittens.
Sometimes just a Bill or Duggie
Sometimes a vague address
Now in those cases you can piece the missing pieces by checking it with the order details on e bay which may be slightly different
If in doubt I always send an e mail on e bay to get them to confirm it.
Just had a classic this evening.
Background is most of my stuff is buy it now with immediate payment

Guy buys an item. at 6pm ish I am out I get in about 9.30ish. Avalanche of e mails off him
1. hi mate need to cancel this cos im not on cable
2. look mate need my refund now
3. you sorting this refund don't mess me about
4. as 3 above with heavier tone
5 as 4 with even heavier tone

I get these in reverse order:
I immediately refund. I send him message saying I am refunding and will he complete the cancel transaction request
I then get a reply why its not his fault
I ask him again
He replies its my fault for not replying sooner and if he hadn't had a go he wouldn't have got his refund would he ? --- all that after the fact I have good feedback saying how quickly I dispatch etc.
I then contact e bay
Through right away on the phone. I ask them about the cancellation and refund of fees . I get the reply well as you have opened a case we will have to allow 7 days and then look at the case inn question etc
In the meantime whilst on the phone the "buyer" leaves me negative feedback ! I then ask the operator how he can do this as he was refunded immediately and I was polite in the extreme. I then get a withering monologue about why buyers can leave feedback etc etc but it can be questioned by the seller. After listening and explaining that surely if a refund takes place immediately it negates the sale he (the operator) agrees to remove the feedback.
Whilst "engaging" with the operator I look at the "buyers" feedback and notice that he has left several negatives against people who have supplied him all along the lines of goods not received. I then look at those sellers feedbacks and notice that the only negatives they have is from this "buyer" and that in some cases they have left follow up comments.
My suspicions are aroused and I suspect that as my listings usually include recorded delivery that this seller realised he couldn't simply say he hadn't got the item.
The "operator" is unimpressed with this conclusion
oh and I will have to wait several days before I can escalate the case to get the fees refunded as the "buyer" has to be given "fair" chance to respond.

It's all going to go tits up big time I think. I can see a raft of buyers regretting buying an item and damaging it to force a refund.
Poor seller is left with no money, knackered item and buyer is laughing all the way to the next auction.

The whole thing is so far weighted in the buyers favour it's untrue. This wouldn't be so bad if anyone at eBay had a modicum of common sense but they can't even sing from the same hymn sheet.

Now would be a really really good time for an eBay rival to establish themselves in the market because sellers are so disillusioned they will jump ship.

In New Zealand, eBay tried to get in and were pushed out. The online auction space there is owned by TradeMe. They would be a good organisation to start to spread outside of NZ and provide an alternative to the crap we have up here. Or perhaps New Zealanders are just better people when using online auctions and less scam happy.

I sell some items that are semi specialised. I have in the past had people buy a basic version then ask me can they do this and that etc with it. I then have to explain no and they should have bought a different type. I have even on trust sent out a higher value one before receiving the other back. I have in many cases gone out of my way.
What e bay is starting to do is to make the scroats and the uneducated think they have exactly the same rights on a second hand item as a new one. Your point about them simply damaging it to get the money back is so bob on.
There really are complete chancers on there. E bay is now encouraging them

I was about to break my self imposed exile from eBay selling. Glad I read this, it reminded me why I stopped last year!

Well eBay never ceases to amaze me:-

Chap wins a Play Station 3

Pays for it and I post.

It arrives and quickly get an item not as described as it does not work. I reply saying that it is odd as it was working before it was sent but please return.

Confirms via the resolution centre that it has been dispatched, proving the tracking number "royalmailpost"

3 days later it has not arrived (what a surprise) and he escalates the complaint.

Bay rule in his favour and ask him to return and provide tracking detail.

He up loads a crumpled Post Office receipt with no tracking number (just the top bit of the receipt)

I look at it and call eBay:- this is not tracking and the weight of the package is confirmed on the receipt as .220gm. I point out that a PS3 with cables etc is over 2.0kg. Ebay are not interested in this.

They did however agree to put the dispute on hold as they needed to clarify with the buyer the actual state of the PS3.

I have just had an email from Ebay, bearing mind that the item has not been returned and the buyer has not provided tracking information.

And guess what, they have ruled in the buyers favour, so I have no PS3 and no funds.

I refuse to sell anything on there anymore, and I only use it to buy low-value items.

I think there's a gap in the market for an old-style ebay for 'normal' people who just want to sell their old tat. At the moment it seems to be a way for chinese companies to sell knock off plastic crap cheaper than the highstreet.

I wouldn't dream of selling an item on there now, as everyone has pointed outs its just weighted towards the dodgy buyers and the fee's are ridiculous.

WOW. eek

I had some 1/18 car models I was thinking of selling but with stuff like this and ever increasing fees I might not bother tbh.

What's the chances of taking ebay to small claims? They're not even abiding by their own rules.

The only way this will stop is when their victims start taking them to the (small claims) court when they pull this sort of stunt. Their terms and contradictions means nothing in comparison to the law.

I don't see the issue. What if he made an eBay account because he wanted to buy a phone?

Also, he'd paid, so what's the issue? Send the phone with proof of postage. You've got the money and proof.. Everyone's gotta start somewhere

OK
Well you say "Send the phone with proof of postage" err not good enough. A simple proof of posting would be nothing like enough to satisfy ebay/paypal. It would have to have proof of delivery.
In all honesty I accept your point everyones got to start somewhere but with e bay as it is a seller can't risk it.
If I had a phone on there and a newbie was bidding on it I would be ultra wary.
