Hope Ramadan is going well for all those who are observing the month.

Interesting points being made by Muslims on the month.

True, but I still question the ideals of somebody preaching to somebody else that they can't drink water for a very long period of time!
It makes you appreciate how lucky we are in this country to have 24/7 access to food and clean water. smile

Surely "management' can make allowances for "unknown" at the time, or is it so hard and fast that it is daft?

Out of interest, do many muslims lose a lot of weight during this month? Or does the nighttime refeed result in people over-eating as they're starving all day?

Not sure how many lose weight.

2 years ago over 36 days I lost 15kg. It was ridiculous.

This year I have lost 3-4kgs already.

I've lost about 4lbs so far. On average I tend to lose about half a stone but it comes back on gradually after Ramadan.

Also I'm not sure if its all "good" weight loss. I'm sure there's a certain amount of muscle loss as well.

Interesting stuff. I guess you'd have to eat more protein and continue with weight lifting during Ramadan to maintain LBM?

Hi Chippy, hopefully we are friends now?

No offence meant.

I'm interested in your weight loss thoughts. Having been in an actual Muslim country during Ramadan i've never seen people eat so much the second the sun goes down, literally every Muslim vanished to the eating areas. Do you genuinely eat less? I strongly suspect you actually consume a lot more at the wrong point in the day.

Possibly like the first few days of Atkins where you lose large amounts of water?

From a personal view after the light breaking fast meal I'm actually not that hungry, when I wake up to eat before the fast begins again I'm mainly drinking water and eating fruit

There some of course choose to stuff themselves, but that's missing the point for me.

Ramadan is about controlling yourself a lesson you learn and use throughout the rest of the year.

It is my first fast since converting last August and I am surprisingly not finding it difficult at all!
Had a little headache yesterday but that was all.
Is it just the Ramadan stuff you are observing after converting, or did you also choose to have your foreskin cut off?

From my perpective in Dubai, it's been easy so far for us - because of the temps all the Muslims have turned nocturnal, and I can't blame them - for me, I'm respecting it but also ignoring it if I can. I still need to work and get stuff done so I'm just sleeping earlier and getting to the office earlier to try and get as much done as possible before the place shuts down at 3pm.

The next two weeks is when I really see a difference - they start to find it very hard, work slows to a trickle and I try and make sure that I drive super-defensively as the accident rate goes through the roof around now, in the afternoons.

It's almost as if you can't wait for Ramadan to be over?!
Someone mentioned earlier how Muslims in hot Arab countries cope. Well, they simply shut down during the day, but still find time to hoon about in their 4x4's and socialise when the sun goes down. "Locals" here in Dubai will do the minimum work they can get away with (that's about an hour a day to you and me in productivity terms) then crack onto a feast in the evenings/early morning. I had a mate round the other day who was picking something up for me....within 2 minutes of being here he was drinking (water) and having a smoke or two whilst we chatted away (safe haven, I guess)
Well, it's a personal thing, I know that and understand it. However the longer I live in this environment, the more I realise that the Muslim population seem to respect the tradition less. I've said in posts before, I liken it to Christmas back in blighty....back in the day it was all about Santa...these days is all about presents. There s a trend here, I'm sure.
