What have their families been "cheated" of? What loss have they suffered as a result of somebody "not fasting"? Btwthe fact that they're not hiding their abstinence from you suggests they don't particularly care what you or others might think so it seems they're happy with their choices.
They're not hiding it from me because they have no real choice - I'm sitting there in the work canteen next to them, or I can see them eating a mars bar at their desk Plus ultimately what I think of them doesn't matter..... they just don't have the balls to stand up to their parents and family. Someone doesn't need to suffer a loss for it be cheating. Or would you prefer I went back and edited 'cheating' out of my posts and changed it to 'lying' ?

Just out of interest - how do you know they've told their friends/family that they're fasting (or that their family believe they're fasting )?Plus ultimately what I think of them doesn't matter..... they just don't have the balls to stand up to their parents and family. Yes, lying would probably be a much more appropriate word (assuming that they're actually lying rather than not caring)

Serious question here - do you believe Ramadan followers work as effectively while fasting? If not, should they accept a lower remuneration during that period, or take unpaid holidays? You could of course use a similar argument for other conditions, but this is self imposed and occurs every year.
I don't think they are as effective but I believe it can be managed. At the end of the day you require a certain level of performance from your staff and, if they're not delivering, you need to be having words.rollondeath said:

Are kids expected to do this too? What age do they usually start?

I should hope not, especially young children, toddlers etc. really not healthy for them and it's not fair as they have no choice as to whether they participate or not..

They were pretty open to it to all the honkies in work - they were openly eating in there, but pretending to all the muslims at home/mosque they were fasting. All a bit bizarre really... To me you're either religious or you aren't. I think anyone who believes in all that st is a complete retard but at least I'd respect them for sticking to it. No respect at all for someone who's pretending

I would be interested to know if medical mishaps increase through Ramadan.
I don't know if medical mishaps increase but I know we get called to more crap calls along the lines of 'Not eaten for 18 hours and feel a bit weak'
Or
'Pregnant female feeling unwell' - usually for the same reasons as above!
But then again it's not much different to the usual Saturday night calls to someone who's taken drugs and feels funny or the person that's drank 12 Bacardi Breezers and feels a bit sick.
Other than that, each to their own, if you want to fast for 18 hours a day for 30 days, good luck to you. Personally it'd be the death of me not eating every couple of hours

Do wonder whatever happened to Officer Tanveer Hussain who had been fasting for sixteen hours. And was unable to carry out his job

Just googled him and the first result was this - http://www.englishdefenceleague.org/is-it-fair-to-...BBC broadcast on 23rd June 2011 - an episode of ‘Traffic Cops’ entitled ‘Running on Empty’.
Unpopular site I know but it makes a very fair point - there is no way that people who've been fasting for 16 hours should be running about the street trying to catch criminals surely.

I have fairies at the bottom of my garden who have told me that during the next month, in daylight hours, I have to hop on one leg. Do I have your respect?TwigtheWonderkid said:
