Used to love it as a kid. Only chucked my board out a couple of years ago. I don't bounce like I used to.

Me and the GF saw a 45 odd year old man casually skateboarding up the road in Windsor at the weekend. Needless to say we both fell about laughing. Not a good look!

I think 35 is borderline ok, but if you're doing it with your kids at a dedicated skate park, I think it's more acceptable! Just seeing someone over 16 using a skateboard as a form of transport in town looks ridiculous imo!
My money's on him being a lot cooler than you.

Like Twig said. Just get on with it. You don't ride the board to look cool (although it can) it's surely the grin of it. The younger you are when you stop caring, the better.
Do it while you can.

Exactly.

Waiting for someone to post "I was on my skateboard in Windsor the other day and there was this young couple rolling about laughing at nothing in particular. Everyone was looking at them. I guess they were on day release from the local psychiatric hospital".

Ah this takes me back, I'm 26 now and gave up when I started work at 16 as I just didn't have the time and the group I skated with went our separate ways, memories!

I'm 50 in August, no sign of me giving up skateboarding yet. There's always a longboard in the back of the car, I even have two of them mounted on the wall in the livingroom.biggrin

I am in my late 20s and still skateboard regularly. I absolutely love it and will never willingly give up. For a setup I would personally buy a 7.75" blank deck, tensor trucks with stiff bushings (body weight), some cheap wheels and bearings. You can do this for about £70 on www.routeone.co.uk. I wouldn't worry about breaking it they are pretty strong I weigh around 12st and I regularly ollie/flip ledges and stairs that are 5ft+ and they absorb the impact time after time.

Have fun getting back into it, don't forget though as you are older it hurts a lot more when you fall lol.

One of the best scenes in a modern film:

Ben Stiller was 46 when he shot that scene. Sincerely hope it really *was* him on the board and not some Hollywood trickery. Regardless, he achieved the "look" of cool IMO.

Excellent!

26 minutes in, the best few minutes of Skate film ever imho.
Seeing street skating like that at the time was just unreal.

"This is me going down the street, oh.....dirt!"

"Hey hey, really good job Natas man, really good job" biggrin

Awesome soundtrack too. Alot of it is from Claus Grabke's band Eight Dayz.

To which part of the "bubble" were you referring?

that link said:
After just two lessons with Holden, Stiller was able to reach speeds of around 35 miles per hour, no small task for someone who had never longboarded before.

Yep, I'll post up some proper pics onc the it's finished (looking a bit shabby at the moment!).

This one's for me, but got a few friends interested in getting one. Thinking Le Mans liveries as a theme...

Went to a wedding that had a miniramp (slightly weird but it was Cornwall)

Found out that I'm still quite handy despite a 20 year hiatus. Even in a suit and dress shoes. Pissed. On the ropiest ramp in the world!

I've since bought a new board.

At 45 he's about half way through his life. Therefore he is probably far to busy living, rather than worrying about what other people think.
