Am I alone in having an absolute and total hatred of term 'reach out' in articles and blogs etc?

"...we reached out to xyz for comment.."

I want to find the author and punch them in the face whenever I read that.

One of my colleagues hates the word 'moist'. What makes you shudder when someone says it?

"Beat down"

"I Beat down on him" - Actually heard this some years ago from a goth who was talking about punching someone.

The rain "beat down" furious

For some reason, it makes me cringe..... I think its the whole Americanism of it!

...our country... Why not UK or Britain? Oh yes, it sounds sort of patriotic and caring to say "Our country"

The Americanism where 'even' has to inserted for emphasis. "What does it mean?" would suffice.

Sorry, another pet hate; n'owt personal. smile

Oh and "..Do we have...?" "Yes we do"
Instead of the traditional "Have we got?" "Yes we have" Grrrr
