"Lessons will be learned"
Anyone, ANYONE who ever says this is an untrustworthy scumbag.

What they actually mean is;

"You've found out about our expenses claims/call girls/rent boys/paedo ring/bribes/drug addiction/criminally bad mis-management/totally catastrophic ineptitude/fixing of exam results/mis-counting of immigrants/lack of airport security/syphoning off of funds meant for NHS trusts/lack of the very basic rules of health and safety & we will endeavour to make sure it won't happen again.

By which we mean, next time we do it, we'll just make sure we do a better job of the cover-up,"

Even worse when prefixed with 'totes'. Especially when muttered by a fat prick who lives close to me. I'd like five minutes to give him a totes kickingballs.

Any use of this word should be punishable by firing squad
This is usually preceded by kick back &. Kick back means what exactly? The only thing I'm going to kick back is your fu@king gormless face.

And (I've said this before but) So. Some people seem to be unable to begin a sentence without so.
Or equally as annoying when they end every conversation with so... Why? mad

"Tackling the deficit and dealing with our debts"

Translation - "We are still racking up massive debts, but the general public are gullible morons so we will present it in a way that looks like we have it under control, even though it isn't."

In yoof speak qualifies, along with Estuary English

Innit
Aksed instead of asked

And the infuriating habit Americans have of welcoming you with:

"What's going on?" - quite a few billions things, can you be a bit more specific
"What's up?" - inflation? helium? My blood pressure?

'Goss' for gossip

'Awesome'

and the worst one 'Iconic'.

Taking these three away would leave a modern presenter speechless.

'touch base' is the one that really annoys me, especially when used by someone i have respect for. it has no meaning and is absurd.
This....
What the fcensoredk does it actually mean?
Why not say "I'll give you a call" or something similar.
If someone uses it on me I instantly think "what a tcensoredt" and usually walk away!

That is all.

Burn down chart.
Line of balance

I had to say "I have no idea what you are talking about, because in my 25 year career, I have never come across those terms"

and when I found out what they were I said "So that's a chart summarising the delivery plan for the arrears, and a delivery plan for arrears? Why not say that instead of confusing people? "

Exciting opportunity
'Cringey' (worst of all, I think)

And, a few years ago at uni, whenever some southern tt would utter 'yah' in response to anything, usually whilst wearing a set of pyjamas in broad daylight.

Anyone over the age of about 15 who mutters the legendary 'LOL'.

My old boss went on about 'solutioneering' and 'long screwdrivering' and it didn't take too long until I heard the same guff from the arris kissers!

"Holding this country/city to ransom"

I've actually lost count of how many times i've heard this lazy tabloidy phrase over the last 4 years, every single time a large group of people collectively decide that they want to take a day's unpaid leave.

I was stood at a bar the other day and heard a lady use the phrase "I need..." when placing her order.

I nearly punched her in the sponge.
