People who are ill and the elderly.

You are which?

Or do you just mean you are less tolerant of the discomfort because you're fat, unfit and soft?
I'm none of these but don't care for high levels of heat/humidity either.

I suspect you're not hard as nails either.

Yes, that'll be it.

I'm a bit of a fat lad, and I do get hot / start sweating at anything north of 19 to 20 degrees.

Although, to be fair, even when I was slim, I still used to find that any kind of heat, or still air, made me sweat. I think it's just me.

Anyway. I can't complain about this weather, it is lovely and I enjoy it. But my house has every single door and window open, and at night yeah, we close the downstairs stuff, but all the upstairs windows are open.

However, my work involves wearing a thick-ish uniform, and frequently going into people's houses. Our vehicles have aircon, so we are ok when on standby and en-route.

But one thing that continually amazes me is the amount of people who have effectively 'sealed' homes in this weather. We arrive, enter the house, hit a wall of cloying heat and humidity, and see that there is not a single window open. Madness - I just don't get it? Ok yeah, maybe old people who feel the cold I can understand - but this is not just old people, it's all sorts.

That, I do not understand! Wierd.

I think the heat some people can tolerate is insane (to me). I'm actually fine as long as I don't have to work or move in it.

I don't tend to complain about it in general, but it would be nice to be able to enjoy it as much as some (most?) actually do. I reckon I must have Scandinavian ancestors as I am definitely not designed for this weather.

I do enjoy seeing the people who gloat about it suffer in winter while I wear a t-shirt biggrin

I like this kind of weather! But being small, slim and of Mediterranean descent is helpful I suppose. My ancestors would have been wearing three piece suits in much worse than this somewhere in Portugal. So now I do the same thing.

Coping strategy so far has been not to wear a tie to work and unbutton my waistcoat. Unfortunately when paired with big sunglasses I look even more like a low-rent drug baron than usual! Are people seriously struggling out there? Long hair helps - I find thick hair insulates the top of the head from sunlight so avoid the hairdresser for a few weeks.

The more physically fit you are the more you are able to tolerate heat without discomfort.

Don't let it go to your head, you will still catch frostbite as easily as the next person!

I don't mind the daytime heat, but humidity at night I cannot stand. I had to use a towel last night as the back of my head was sweating..wet hair, damp pillow..urgh.

I like having Windows open, especially if I open one at the front of my house, and a 2nd around back..to get that through draft, but.. doing this seems to invite Noah & his gang and every type of insect known to man, Moths, Daddylonglegs, Spiders, Midgies, flies!! So my alternative is closing my bedroom window again..& back to the Steam room. frown

goldblum why do you seem to have a problem with people who aren't comfortable in the heat?
I'm also quite fit; not overweight and not "soft"...although where I'm from that would usually be qualified as "soft southerner" who didn't cope with the cold.

I'm really glad it's warm at the moment, and I'm happy riding my bike in this weather. It's working and public transpor that cause problems. So I try and avoid both.

Work from home and dont have aircon in the house, so it's fans for me, plenty of drinks and wearing shorts/tshirts. One of the nice things is that when it gets really hot I can still lose clothes and no-one knows. Other than the postie, but he's discreet.

One thing I have done though is moved or removed PCs running in the room I'm working from. I used to have a small server and desktop PC set up, which were generating heat, so moved one downstairs and use the laptop instead of desktop.

The UK southeast weather is perfect at the moment.

Nice and still and semi-humid and sunny and hovering permanently around 18c to 30c all day and night. Feels a little like LA in early Summer.

Coping with mild to medium heat depends mostly on body fat. If you're less than 10% fat (skinny), heat is no sweat. If you're a tubby 20%+, heat gets tougher to cope with.

Seriously though, I've always sweated like a rapist. If I knew a way to stop it, I would. Winter is ideal T-shirt weather for me.
I'm glad I'm not alone. The worst is when I'm having sex and I drip onto my GF (sweat, not spunk). It's a trifle embarrassing.

I find that changes in temperature are the worst for me, even in the winter if I'm walking back from lunch, and it's cold outside, to a warm office, then it will rain off me. Soya milk helps though.

rofl

yes same here for me in winter. Can be lovely and cool, go into a building, bang, shower time.

I'm jealous of people who can not only function but actually enjoy this weather. Saying those who suffer are being fannies is about as useful as saying someone with cancer is a fanny. It can't be helped!!!
