Er, am I missing something??? It's like 28-30 degrees today, it's hardly the surface of the sun.

Open a window, wear cool clothes where possible, drink plenty of water and I think you'll all survive.
Different type of heat to the continent though, we seem to get really muggy heat, they get a lovely dry heat. And as one would be on holiday on the continent, it's not an issue as you have access to the sea/a pool, and a natty sun hat sold by Abdul.

I'm an Aussie, living in London. I didn't like the heat in Australia, and I don't like it here. Fortunately, I have to deal with a lot less of it!

Thing is, I've really noticed that 30 degrees in London feels a heck of a lot hotter than 30 degrees in southern Australia. The last few days have had me feeling like I used to feel when it was around 40 degrees back in the homeland. Unbearable and oppressive.

Stupid me, power-walked 5 and a half miles on Thursday, thinking it'd be nicer to walk places than use public transport in the heat. Regretting that one. In normal circumstances that'd be just fine, but on Thursday I was utterly knackered!

It's a bit muggy, yes. But it's not unbearable IMO. That said, i'd much rather the dry heat they have in Arizona cloud9

I think it's particularly bad at the moment as there's so much water in the air. Every day for about the last week I've woken up to find it's rained in the night (if it doesn't then rain again in the day time) the heat then builds up with really high humidity. It's like the rain is turbo-charging the temperatures.

High temps are bearable if you get time to adjust to them, in the UK we usually just get a week or so of hot weather and by the time we are acclimatized, it's back to normal.

Best ways to escape the heat are to either go swimming or sit in an Air-Conditioned cinema for 3 hours.

it's bearable at the moment, but if it's gets hotter i'll be taking a dip in the pool later.

Coping with what heat? Is this thread open to anyone north of London? It may interest some southern solipsists to know it's not been above 24c in Cheshire. No particularly violent thunderstorms or rain. Always going to be warmer in a big city.

It was quite warm in Bristol last night. Watched the thunderstorms for a bit and then decided to get some sleep. I half-filled a mixing bowl with cold water, put some ice cubes in it and sprinkled it with salt. This concoction was placed in front of my fan, it kept my bedroom cool through the night. Just a tip for anybody who couldn't doze off last night.

The heat could be manageable it's the heat AND the humidity that's difficult to cope. It was ok this morning but now even with all windows/doors open + fans on I'm sweating! Tempted to make a trip to Maplins to buy a portable A/C unit...

I'm in Cambridgeshire, we had 33C at the highest yesterday, the thermometer in the kitchen by the open doors (no cooking going on) showed 29.5C about 8 p.m. last night.

'lo Dusty, long time no hear..

Its actually been pretty cool for Dubai so far this summer, don't think I've seen it above 45 very often.. Looking forward to the last week or Ramadan though so I can bunk off early and be sailing by 4.. Water is lovely at the moment.

Thursday I was stuck in Central London in rush hour traffic for 2 hours in 29 degrees heat with no air conditioning. I think I lost about 3 stone in sweat.

As a London commuter the tube was ridiculous. The heat was unbelievable. Must have been 40+
Office near 30 according to my desktop temperature guage, despite aircon.

Got to feel for our Muslimists. Couldn't last an hour without water. Too hot even for beer!
Which line were you on? the jubilee and piccadilly lines were perfectly tolerable. It only felt hot yesterday when I realised I was stood in the glare of the HSBC building and that was hardly Middle East temps.
