I employed them.

So yes. I know exactly what my workers are on.

Last job was government, so knew where they were in the bands.

We know exactly what each others pay is. My group have identical responsibilities with identical job descriptions.

Lowest paid are on 27k, highest paid are on 74k. The ones higher up have been here longer so benefited from a time when annual pay increases happened regardless of performance.
Do your identical job descriptions and responsibilities fully translate to what each person actually does? If all of you do equal work then that is a ridiculous range!
Yes, we are all the same with the exception that the older guys are nearer retirement so they literally kick back and have a 3pm snooze.

Those on 74k have been here 40 years (past typical retirement age), so all through the 80's and 90's they would get automatic increments each year. At the turn of the millennium HR clicked that they didn't need to be doing that as it was an employers market, so all salaries froze.

Higher Education sector in IT. Nobody gets downgraded or sacked.

Living in Norway you get used to everyone being able to do a simple online search to find out your salary and personal 'wealth'. The socialist ideal means there are little-to-no secrets about salaries for even the elite.

Give or take you know in my organisation as it's a banding system. Know what band someone is within and they can be on one of 3 salaries-longer you've been in the post the more likely you are in the middle range don't seem to utilise the top of the band range.

Also I have access to PM software so can check anyhow, but the workforce at large can follow the above.

Much as with the weddings, you just associate with knobs. Try mixing with new people, it'll change your life.
I was actually referring to some of the weird people on here.

Thanks for labelling my friends as knobs though.

If that's the way you perceive it, then there's little i can say to change your mind.

May i suggest that you actually read what i type in context, rather than what YOU think i've typed.

H22, genuine question, why do you end up arguing with almost every other poster in every thread you participate in?

You seem like a very angry, resentful character. Is it because we are all faceless strangers and you enjoy the banter, or are you really such an arse in real life?

Yes, I have a fairly good idea.

I am usually fairly open about it, I work in sales, so its not such a taboo to talk about bonuses etc than it might be in another line of work.

I know roughly what most of my mates does and gets paid for it, usually because they moan about being skint! There is certainly a perception that being a higher rate taxpayer (40%) is a big deal, sadly the reality is not that if you're in the SE I don't think.

I think a company publishing them would be a good idea.

Thing is salary has little to do with skills, qualifications and hard work. Admirable qualities that they are and they do help in the log run.

Salary has a lot to do with timing, negotiating, supply and demand..

Thanks to those factors 2 people in the same company doing the same job can be on hugely different packages...

Every post you write in a thread about money is;

'bloody higher rate tax payer'

'pah! youre a mug for spending more than 85p on your wedding'

'id rather throw £5k out of a helicopter than spend it on a watch' - WTF?!

'what an idiot for buying that'

'flashy tt'

'they are such a show off'

'bloody boomers have ruined my future'

PLENTY of people your age (35) have done far more and gone further than you have.

You yourself have said before that you have chosen a profession which will never let you earn more than you do now and probably wont let you afford kids in the future. You have said in another thread you earn about £28k (which is the same as you earnt 2005) and in the thread 'where do you see yourself in...' you said you want to be earning £36k in TEN years! Presuming you want them kids, where is your fking ambition then if you dont think that salary will allow you to have them!?

EVERYONE other than has noticed how much you pop up on threads like this a whinge constantly about people who you percieve to be better off than you.

The problem is clearly with you and YOUR choices. Life is NOT fair, but people are still successful working up from the bottom because they say to themselves 'fk this, im going to do something about it and be a success anyway!'.

How about you stop being so bitter and jealous and go do something about it too.

A bit of both, i'd say. I can be an arse in real life too. smile

I regularly read threads on pistonheads and i find that some of the more vocal regular contributors hold snobby, elitist, haughty and offensive views on a huge range of topics. These people need to be pulled up and challenged.

Many of these contributors do not deserve much respect and need their views to be challenged every now and again, otherwise this forum would become an echo chamber for one type of person.

Sometimes it only takes one person to stick their head above the parapet to encourage others to speak out.

I have a pretty thick skin and i don't really care if many of these people think i'm an arse. I don't need their approval or respect.

I don't enjoy arguing, but i also don't enjoy reading page after page of these people agreeing with each other.

If everybody had the same opinion, this place would be be very dull.

You see, you're a prime example of somebody who needs to have their views challenged.

You refer to me as "bitter" & "jealous"....but i have no real desire to earn lots and lots of money. Not everybody in this country is an ambitious, sharp-elbowed yuppie with a desperate need to prove how 'successful' they are!

If you think there's something wrong with earning less than £36000, then i find your opinion a bit strange because the majority of people in the UK fall into that category.

Yes. My choices are MY CHOICES. They have absolutely nothing to do with you. i don't need other people dictating what i should do with my life. It's very patronising.

Most of the wealthy people I know are not ambitious, sharp-elbowed yuppies with a desperate need to prove how 'successful' they are. They are simply successful. You are in danger of sounding bitter & jealous! wink

Just because some may be more ambitious than you, it doesn't make them all yuppies or show offs.

I don't have any delusions of grandeur, but earning more money makes life easier and more pleasant than earning less money.

Bold bit proves my point.

Nothing at all wrong with earning £36k. But you said you probably wont be able to afford to have kids in the future due to being 'screwed by the system' (paraphrasing) so yeah, there is something wrong with it for you and aiming for an £800/year pay rise in the prime of your earning years in order to get to a level which you still think may not be enough for kids (which you again presumably want) means that yeah, I think you dont have much ambition and you are attacking others for it.

Do you really like saying to people that you are not ambitious?

The problem is you quite obviously do....

Get the house you want but cant afford get the cars you like....

But instead you reject all help and wrap the angst up in hatred and ridicule for anyone who has managed to do those things....

Now your going to call me a troll..

So I might as well say this anyway:-

Its really good and fun to be able to do whatever you want and dream about in life as your means can facilitate it..

Honestly you should try it you'd like it...
