Some people on here just refuse to accept criticism, full stop. Regardless of how many bigoted yuppies spew bile at me for what they consider to be a "lack of ambition", it doesn't change the fact that yuppie show-offs are despised by a huge number of people in this country and that's something that will not change anytime soon in this new 21st century, low-wage economy.

Nobody likes a show off and nobody likes those who look down their noses at people who do essential jobs for fairly modest salaries.
You also seem to be basing your whole argument on this notion that most people give a fk what others think of them?

I don't think many of the people that have challenged you on here are 'yuppies' and I certainly doubt they are worried what people like you think of them for having a bit about them.

Would these people "who do not care" be the ones that spent £30000 on a wedding for 100 guests?

"I don't care what people think of me, but i'm going to pay £1500 for somebody to take photographs and use photoshop to iron out the imperfections"

"I don't care what people think of me, but we couldn't possibly get married in a registry office because her family & friends would disapprove"

"I don't care what people think of me, but i can't ask the guests to pay for their own drinks because i don't want to come across as tight-fisted and mean"

Actions speak louder than words.

I know pretty much exactly what my colleagues earn and they know what I earn. Our salary system is rigid and based entirely on your grade so whilst I might not know the exact "step" within someone's grade, I can pretty much know to within a few % what each and every colleague earns. It's not really regarded as particulary private data as the salary scales are (internally) published as part of our "codex" of working regulations. This is common in international organisations, NGOs and Intergovernmental agencies.

As such, it's no big deal smile

Also, in Holland people will just ask you how much you earn as part of a normal conversation!

I earn enough. More would be nice and I could live on less.

(oh and salary is entirely based on documented and verified experience, no negotiation, gender is irrelevant, race is irrelevant - but you do have to be a national of one of our contracting states)

Last week, whilst away on some business in Europe, my good work colleagues from other teams who I work with closely both alluded to the fact that they both had pay rises that day to the tune of 5 figures, which were commanded by some high up in the company who felt they should had one. Good on them I say, they are both known and respected in their fields and pay rises have been thin on the ground in the company for a long time.

Did I get a bit jealous? Yes, for a few minutes inside. But this is what happens when you work in a fortune 500 corporate, there is generally no rhyme no rhythm as to when you'll get the tap on the shoulder for a raise. For me, I know where I need to work on areas where I'm not as strong as the elder guys (15-20 year age gap for a start...). I'm armed with 'insider' information, such as job grade pay-bands, as well as knowing that you don't want to earn too much higher than your peers else you'll stick out like sore thumb when it comes to the chop. It's also in our contracts not to discuss pay.

I did precisely all of those things for myself and the missus because we wanted them. We got exactly what we wanted, the photos we wanted, the big fk off party we wanted. We could afford it so why the hell not?

Do you have a small 12 inch CRT television because colour and LCD/plasma is for yuppies? Do you have a 1.0L 1990 Fiesta because anything else if flash? Do you have any phone other than a Nokia 3310 because (other than being the best phone ever) anything new or 'smart-phone'y' is for posh douches?

Have you never just wanted things and bought them becuase of that?

If I hadnt done the wedding how I wanted it no one I know would have cared and I wouldnt have cared if they did.

When I did do it how I wanted it, likewise, no one judged and again it was becuase I wanted to do it and that was the end of that. Everyone had an amazing time and we were happy with that; not one other thing mattered to us and if anyone didnt like it they could fk off. But I dont keep company with the sort of people who would judge like you do.

You seem to hang out with people who judge others a huge amount. Proper friends dont do that.

Has it occured to you that people might want their guests and everyone involved to have a memorable day?

All that above is in your head, you are looking at it from a very bizarre standpoint.

ALSO - have you also thought that for some people £30k isn't actually a ridiculous amount of money?

No, not at all. Why are making things up? Are you doing it deliberately to make a point?

I have no problem with people who do well. I have a problem with people who boast about their salary and rub other people's noses in it by peacocking and displaying how 'successful' they are.

I have uncles, aunties and cousins that could be considered 'wealthy', but they don't feel the need to brag about it like some on here do.

Spending money on a nice holiday/wedding/car/watch isn't necessarily "bragging about it" or "peacocking". (Unless these people are the "Considerably richer than yow" types).

How do you know your relatives are wealthy unless

(A) they've told you about it (bragging?)
(B) they spend it on nice cars etc etc (pea cocking?)

Couldn't disagree more.

The 8310 was the best phone ever.

The beauty about being a contractor is I don't give a toss what my colleagues are on as they are all permies. I let them squabble and bh about who earns the most.

The issue is that YOU seem to think EVERYBODY with a nice watch, expensive wedding etc is doing it to a)look down on you/others and b)show off.

It really isn't the case in all examples and some people just like having nice things - you seem to not understand this and tar everyone with the same brush.

Can you not see how stupid your premise is that all this is done to show off? Please tell me you're not that fking dumb.
