I like my current work phone which I got on ebay actually. Its battery lasts about 6 weeks - except its dead right now...
Seriously though - nice phone. Always wanted one when they were newish but couldn't afford one, so I settled for the 8310

Where my relatives live is no secret to my family. The fact that they built or bought their 5 bedroom family home 30 years ago, watched the property multiply in value and have paid off most of the mortgage is no secret either.
The areas they live in are very desirable. None of my older relatives are show offs. They are humble and don't hold some of the disgusting, snobby views that i see on here. They don't hold these views because they see their own children and grandchildren struggling to afford a house and competing for jobs in a competitive market.
So no, they're not peacocking or bragging.
What your relatives have done is similar to what most other people have done. The areas they live in are very desirable. None of my older relatives are show offs. So why is it that you consider other people to be braggarts and peacocks but your relatives are hardworking humble "salt of the earth" types?
A tad hypocritical, I would suuggest.

i'll out peacock the pair of you - had one of these as my first company phone, soon replaced for some hefty blackberry when we realised how st they were for e-mail.
Sorry - doesn't do it for me. The 8890 was always the "one"....We used to be able to work it out but the grade bands overlap by about £15K. Some perks like bonus you can work out based on years in or how lazy they are but its hard to tell. At the end of the day I am happy my salary/bonuses and perks so I don't give a monkeys what my colleagues earn.

Nah...the 6310i still rules....
The week I started in sales, the first mobile phones were issued to staff, Nokia 6021's before that it was a bag of 10p coins to stop and use the pay phone to call the office!! I remember buying my own joy stick attachment so I could play 'Snake" betterEdited by shep1001 on Monday 28th July 19:07
I don't know what my colleagues earn. Where I currently work no-one does a job like mine, so it wouldn't be comparable if I did.
This topic shows the Brits up again as two-faced, snobs, show-offs, secret keepers, jealous types.
The reason it's not talked about is because of our capitalist culture - we want to earn more than everyone else, we want to pay employees as little as possible.

And by the way Countdown I could never afford the 8890 either when it came out - bought it on ebay for £20 I believe!
What. A. Pair.

Don't be so childish. The man clearly insulted my relatives, so my response was proportionate and appropriate.
If you're bored with my 'drivel', don't read it.
No I did not. My own parents also rode the boom like it sounds like yours did. If you're bored with my 'drivel', don't read it.
I am certainly not jealous at all, I've worked hard to not need their inheritance, but should I get it, so be it, but just because someone built a house, or whatever else, it doesn't mean that they worked hard for it.
The reason people like that don't make noises is likely because most of their cash is tied up in the house they're sitting in.
What's your criteria for 'working hard' then?
If "Buying the land and building a house with your bare hands" doesn't count as hard work, then i'm not sure what does.
Is it only high-earning "hardworking" yuppies that deserve a house in this day & age? Maybe you should decline the inheritance if you think your parents didn't earn it.
If they wanted to, my aunt & uncle could remortgage or downsize, then have a few hundred thousand to show off with, but they won't because they're not flash and they're a different species to the type of people who lurk in the darker corners of PH * , waiting for an opportunity to willy wave with gay abandon.
- (unashamedly shallow and materialistic middle-aged people and consumerist barbarian generation Y yuppies..)

Bet you they will when the old age medical bills start cranking up...then its bang goes your house purchase plan.....
Thanks for raising the issue of my relatives ill health. My uncle recently had a stroke, but he's recovering well. My cousins will be delighted that you're commenting about it.
Stay classy.
