Yes, I noticed that too. But if you look at the full video in the article then you'll see it's a clip from a compilation vid. But, I agree that as a standalone GIF they could have tried to do it from one person only. 
That's just insane. 
I hope everyone was ok.
With hindsight, there's probably not much the motorcyclist could have done although perhaps waving his arms frantically might have helped. But then again, the speed those cyclists were coming though it would probably have been fairly futile.

Looks like the bike was a fairly old Ducati Multistrada. Italian electrics? You'd kind of expect the guide/camera bike to be up to date in good condition. Maybe rider error like accidentally flicked the kill switch in his haste to get moving.
