I guess those tankers (I think that's a DC10?) are modified to be more manoeuvrable than airliners because the nature of their job means they have to fly at very low altitude, often over rough terrain... but I doubt he intended to get quite that close. If his water-doors hadn't opened for some reason I'm not convinced he would have cleared that hill with another 50 tonnes on board.
